My RCA DRC 8312 loads the disc then states it is "reading disc" for approx 30 seconds then states "no disc". I've tried multiple discs, sprayed air into the player trying to loosen any dust particles on lense, purchased a Maxell lense cleaning disc but it won't play that either.
When I open the tray , remove the disc, and close the tray it still says it is "reading disc" even though there is no disc in the player. Eventually is says "no disc". Can someone help me? I'm at wit's end..........
Almost always, your described problem indicates a faulty laser optics. Your post that it is still reading even when tray is empty validates this. The correct procedure would be to replace the laser optics. This however is an assembly that includes the carriage and support mechanism. In some instances, would even include the tray and other mechanical structure.
Based on the above, the cost of replacement assembly, cost of service, downtime and waiting time plus age of the RCA, you may want to re-evaluate your options and consider a replacement. If you are not venturing into a DIY (do-it-yourself), then repairs may no longer be economically justifiable.
That means that either the lens is dirty or defective, orthe motor is not spinning, if the motor is spinning then it is the lens.
The unit must be taken apart to clean or replace the lens pickup, or to see if there is any broken part inside, when it says no disk , it is usually the lens.

Have used this brand new VCR to DVD recorder model DRC 8312 for about 30 minutes playing a tape last night. Now it just locks up with HELLO. (Guess "I'M A PIECE OF WORTHLESS ****" wouldn't fit on the display) My suggested fix: Use prybar or bolt cutters to get your tape out. Then use sledgehammer to pound this RCA product into a million pieces. Never again RCA.

RCA Model #DRC8312N problem: Picked up a movie from Blockbuster (DVD video) and the RCA unit says "no disc" after a lengthy reading of the disc. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Mike
