Question about HP Pavilion DV5234US Notebook Laptop

1 Answer

I am trying to fix a pal's HP laptop which will no longer connect to the internet. This may sound a dumb question but on my laptop (advent) I have to pres fn and F10 keys to tell it to detect the network, is there something similar I have to do on her HP laptop? Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.

    Its a HP G6000.

I managed to connect to the internet by wiring it to my router, it did connect as it downloaded vista updates but I couldn't get on any websites. She seems to be running a Norton programme and Panda Internet Security 2008 which is password protected and I cannot get hold of her for the password.

My initial instinct is to uninstall norton and panda, install avg free, superantispyware, spybot and adaware and see if they pick anything up but I will wait until I get hold of her tomorrow.

Hey carol
i have an hp laptop as well. mine has a hardware switch to turn off/on wireless. this is the 1st thing to check. mine is a pavillion 6707-- what is her exact model number? (prob. on the bottom of the computer). the second thing to check is is anything changed with the settings to connect to her network)

ive had situations where the firewall was blocking out network traffic on my wireless laptop. a wireless network is a differnt one than the wired. when a firewall detects a new connection, it usually pops up a "new network detected" box, asking you if it should treat it as a safe home network, or a public one, etc. If you hit the wrong button, it will not allow proper access, and since you dont have the password to change settings, you cant do anything about it as you say... still, it MAY be the wireless card, the wireless driver, or the specific setting allowing it to connect (encrytion password, proper SSID filled out, etc that could have been changed). Dont forget, if youre testing your pals laptop at your place, you have to punch in your specific wireless network info as per above...
