Question about Kenmore 98702 Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

I tried to disconnect the buzzer on my dryer (Kenmore, Stacked, Model# 11088752794, and I didn't unplug it or turn off the power. I ended up touching two connections on the last electrode and it arced. Now I don't have power to any of the washer or dryer components.

It appears your timer/controller has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!!

How to shut off dryer end of cycle beep. Can u run

If the model number is correct, the dryer End of Cycle signal cannot be adjusted or turned off. The informatrion is listed on page 11 of the Owner's Manual:

http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/16695/WHIRLPOOL-Laundry-Centers-L0710382?brand_name_search=LTE5243D

The only way to turn the signal off, is to remove the operator console, locate the signal (buzzer) module and disconnect the wire(s). The buzzer is listed as item 32 under the "Washer/Dryer Control Panel" parts listing:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Whirlpool-Parts/Washer-dryer-combo-Parts/Model-YLTE5243DQ2/1198/0152000/W0702346/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

CAUTION: If you choose this option, make sure you UNPLUG the washer/dryer before servicing anything inside. If you disconnect any wires, make sure you cover them with heat shrink or electrical tape to keep them from coming into contact with anything else.

The washer and dryer use a common power source, but the rest of the functions operate independently of each other. You can safely run both units at the same time.

If need further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Frigidaire GLEH1642FS washer/dryer stacked unit: How do I disconnect the buzzer?

The buzzers (there are two, one for the washer, one for the dryer) are behind the control panel. 6 screws must be removed to access the back of the control panel: 2 for the service panel, the 2 outer screws at the base of the control panel, then the 2 much smaller-sized screws.

The buzzers, in my model, are small, un-buzzer-like-looking little black boxes stamped with the brand name 'Ark-less'.

The buzzer for the dryer is connected to 2 contacts on the back of the dryer timer, the contacts labeled 'H' and 'C'.

Once you've identified the buzzer for the dryer, you should be able to find the one for the washer. It's connected by one white and one grey wire.

You should be able to verify this info using the wiring diagram, which will be located behind the service panel. If I remember correctly, the buzzers were labeled 'signal' on the diagram.

On the Kenmore 70 series, can the buzzer be disconnected? Our 5 month old gets startled each time that damn dryer buzzes (It seems like it last forever!)

Hi, did you try turning the buzzer off with the knob on the right side of the operation panel (which is also used as the start button)? If you turn that knob to the left, it should turn off the buzzer.

If it still buzzes, the switch behind that knob may be faulty. You can get at it by removing the panel at the rear of the dryer (6 screws) and then you can test it and adjust its internal contacts if need be.

Hope that helps!

Dryer buzzer is SO LOUD - How can I adjust volume/turn off?

Buzzer mounted to back of control panel.

**UNPLUG POWER BEFORE REMOVING CONTROL PANEL OR TOUCHING -ANYTHING-!**

Located on left side of control panel, bolted to back. Small rectangular device with two connections and no associated button or dial.

Remove the panel and disconnect one of the leads. Fold the connector back against its wire, carefully and securely tape the connector with electrical tape so it cannot touch anything. Also tape the connector on the buzzer that you removed the wire from.

Re-assemble the control panel.

As with anything mechanical, hours of frustration trying to take something apart can be avoided by taking a few minutes at the beginning to look closely at how it is assembled.

Dryer buzzer

Depending on the model some have a separate buzzer you can disconnect and tape off the leads to it. If it is an electronic timer you can muffle the sound by taking a piece of electrical tape and covering the whole on the small black speaker attached to the timer.
