Try removing the top, then remove the metal plate that covers the DVD tray. After that metal plate is removed, then push door open and see if the door responds. On this unit those plates get warped somehow. If this causes the door to open, then gently bend that plate just slightly up in the middle.
Tray is out of alignment or belt drive is shot.Knock on top of cabinet with knuckles while pressing open button it will open the disc tray door 98% of time. While disc tray door is open you will see a tiny pulley to the right, this belt is probably too worn out to open the door properly.Uses 1.9 size belt. You can remove and replace with twizzers.Make sure new belt is in the tracks or tray won't move.

I hear ya, I have two Ilo's like that myself! There is a small rubber band that goes around two pulleys that open and close the dvd tray they get worn and won't let the door open. Sadly I can't find any to replace them. you can slap the top of player to open them which I have done but after awhile it starts to hurt! lol Finally I bought a dvdrw like goes in a PC and set it up on top of my player. I opened up ILo took the strap and power supply from old recorder and hooked them to the new one. don't look pretty but works. But you will have to make sure you get the right type all will not work. The burn speed on the ILo 4 to 8x Ide DL. Hope this helps.
You can usually open a disk player door by using a straightened paper clip. There is a small hole on the face of the disk face. Push the paper clip in, it should release the door. This may fix the jam.
Disc tray belt that opens door has too much slack and need to be replaced,$2 item, belt size 1.9.To get tray open use your knuckles and tap on TOP of cabinet just above disc door while pushing open button. When open you will see the tiny belt that operates door to the right, use twizzers to remove an replace.Make sure new belt is seated properly in tracks if not tray won't move.
I was having the same problem. My DVDR04 was working fine. And after about four months of not using it I desired to use it. Turned it on and everything was in black in white. After searching on line and e-mailing Ilo which I never got an answer. I finally tried using an RCA video (Yellow) cable on the line out video jacks, replacing the line out S-Video jack/cable and it worked fine back in color right away.
My ILO was doing the same thing, then it stopped doing it. It then suddenly would not recognize any media. I opened up the case and found it is using a dvd lite-on recorder. I had this old pc laying around with a gigabyte dvd recorder in it. For a test, I unplugged the lite-on and plugged in the gigabyte recorder. On power up, it seemed to work fine. After recording 3 DVD's I modified the case to accept the hew recorder. ** problems since, its not pretty, but it was easy to get the unit functional again.
The laser is either dirty or is starting to go.These lasers in this model usually only last two years. To clean but a commercial disc cleaner philips or Maxell work good in this model.Put a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushes this helps clean laser.I would do this every 15 hours of use .The best way to clean laser is to rub gently with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires some technical knowledge for you have to open burner. If you attempt this make certain electrical plug is pulled lasers cause nasty burns.
If laser is going you can replace the burner/loader unit, this model uses a 411s or 451s Liteon burner. The 401s and 813s will also work without problem.
