Re: can't get a picture
Try this. hookup your ps3 to tv and when it is on standby, press and hold the power button for over 5 seconds, this runs the optimal settings page and auto selects the best option for the cables you have fitted, hope this helps

try only having the hdmi cable hooked up to ps3 and tv, turn off ps3 and hold power button for 5 or 10 seconds and you should hear 3 beeps, this should reset the ps3 and detect the settings, if this doesnt work you mmay have to manually change audio and video settings in the ps3 settings menu to hdmi output and auto detect which settings work.
The PS3 can be hooked up to the tv using either a HDMI cable or the old RCA (Yellow, Red, White) cables. If you are having problems viewing a picture or hearing sound, here is some trouble shooting you might want to try.
Connect the PS3 using both the HDMI and RCA cables. select the HDMI input on your tv. turn on the PS3. If you cant see a picture, press and hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps (this will take about 15 seconds). This resets the PS3 to the old RCA cables. Select the RCA input on your tv. Hopefully you can see the image and hear the PS3 now. Go to the settings on the PS3 and change the display settings to output video through the HDMI. Remember, your tv can only go as high as 1080i resolution, so you wont see anything if you select the 1080p resolution.
If this didn't work, you might have a bad signal though the HDMI cable. Unplug the tv and PS3 for atleast 30 minutes, and then connect the PS3 to the tv before you turn either one on.
If this doesn't help, then you might have a HDMI cable that isn't recognized by either your PS3 or your tv. Try replacing your HDMI cable.
Have you changed the connection you have the PS3 hooked up to the TV with? If so, instead of pushing the PS button on the controller to turn the console on, push and hold the power button on the console for a few seconds. You should get picture shortly after. This resets the PS3's output settings and makes it detect the type of connection you are using.
hook the appropriate inputs (red white and yellow) on the side of the video input on the emerson tv. Power up tv and be sure it is on the video input screen. Be sure your PS3 is plugged in as necessary, PS3 is in the off position. Turn PS3 on and hold the power button on for 7 seconds until you hear the PS3 beep at you twice (wait for 2nd beep) at that point the PS3 should boot up on your tv monitor - you are resetting the resolution by holding the button down
Reset the video settings by turning on the ps with only the power cable plugged in, when turning on continue to hold the power button until you hear a second set of beeps then turn off the console.
Boot up the ps and plug in your av/hdmi cable and you should have picture and sound.
Hook up the composite cables that come with the unit. Turn the TV on to the correct input. Turn the PS3 on using the power button on the unit. When you press the button continue holding the button until you hear a second beep....about five seconds. That should set the PS3 back to the factory output. If that corrects the problem you can set the PS3 to use whichever cable you want via the XMB.
turn the PS3 off.
hold the power button for at least 5 seconds or until you hear another beep.
This should reset all your ps3's settings.
If you have an HDMI connection, wait for a couple of seconds so that the PS3 recognizes and negotiates the right video output for your TV.
Try resetting your PS3 and see if it works. Turn off your PS3 and when it's on and in standby mode hold your finger on the power button for 5 seconds. You will hear beeps,....it resets the video output
