There's alot of things to check here, David. But, since it's a GE, I'll assume a defrost problem 'cause they are known for those issues. Is there ice/frost buildup on the rear wall of the freezer? If so, it's not defrosting. 3 things will cause a "no defrost" condition. Failed evaporator thermister, Failed defrost heater and failed electronic control. Your model has problems with the first 2, rarely the 3'rd. You can get your machine cooling again by manually defrosting it. Simple, unplug it for 24 hours and leave the freezer door cracked open an inch or so. After time is up, plug it back in and it'll cool just fine for a week maybe two, 'til the frost builds back up again. This'll buy you time to get parts and do the repair and besides... it has to be done anyway. Even if you had the parts in hand and did the repair right now, you'd still have to manually defrost it. Post back and let us know.

I was told by a tech that the thermistors rarely fail. Is That not necessarily the case in your view. It sounds like it probably might be a good idea to replace the thermistor along with the the failed board or evap motor. Can I ask your opinion on that ? Thanks Bob H

Can I ask you a question for your opinion. I was told that the evaporator thermistors very rarely fail. Would you disagree and recommend replacing the thermistor along with any other failed parts ? Thanks Bob H

CWC-1600 cools constantly

More than likely, the thermostat on the unit is going bad. If the coils haven't been cleaned recently, then I suggest that you unplug the unit, clean it well and then cycle it back on. If it continues, then the thermostat that's located within the unit is going bad. Please refer to the owners manual for proper service and maintenance for your unit. https://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/content/pdfs/140265-1.pdf

The cold control needs replacing. Thats the knob with the numbers that turn the Ref OFF and ON.
What I do is call my local Appliance Parts Store with my model no. They are extremely helpful .
Get freezer and ref thermometer. Ref is probably too cold.
Freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees. Ref 33 to 35

It seems that the temp more often goes up to 20-30's and that food is not as frozen when I check it. When temp goes up I check it for next couple of minutes and usually within 10 min the temp is back down...

This is normal. All commercfial freezers must defrost 3 to 5 times a day, or they will freeze over at the coil and then stop freezing. A timer in your freezer turns off the compressor and turns a heating element on for 10 to 15 minutes. During that time the coil heats and melts frost from the coil. Usually within 30 minutes the temperature will briefly rise to 20 t0 25 degrees F and then quickly drop down to 0 degrees F. The food rarely defrosts in this short period of time..

Will freezer work in low ambient temperature (i.e. 26'F)? I have a GE refrigerator/freezer (c. 1983) in a cabin which gets winter temps around 25 degrees. I found the freezer contents had melted and then...

The compressors are rated for ambient temp. and most refrigerator compressors are rated for abour 50 degrees F

to answere your question yes the ambient temp is a problem.

And as for the Thawing, the refrigerator will go into defrost every 8 to 10 hrs and turn on the heater inside the freezer for about 30 min.

You can also cause damage to the seal system and the compressor because the oil will become slugish inside the compressor.

In other resarch I found that because of the ambient temp the freon gas (mostly the newer freon's) won't work corectly because they stay in liqued form.

Gladiator ref is not cooling properly

Check to see if there is cold air coming from the freezer to the refridgerator side through the vent holes The compressor maybe getting weak or the freon charge maybe low. Does the unit run a long time before it shuts off? 50 degrees is not cold enough for a freezer. You should be around 32 or less.

New freezer not cooling - temp @ 25 degrees and food is defrosted

It is probably the control board and since it's new it's still under warranty so a certified Frigidaire repair man will fix it without charge. There should be a telephone number with the paperwork you received when you bought it.

hi there,
have check the current rating, this can determine if your freezer is under charge, use a clamp ammeter hook it up on common line of compressor, set ampere on tester to 50 amper so you can read clearly, compare this on rated current on manuals or theres a description tag on backside of your freezer look for rated amperes .this should be done by aircon / ref technician if you can't do this, have check also the leak , have a nice day don't forget to rate me,thank's
