You take off the door screws and the screws on the other side. This will allow you remove the front of the machine. Pull forward at the top front, it will pull out and then you can lift up to get the bottom out of some clips. You will have access to most of dryer from here, but if you want to pop the top, it pops up like a car hood. There are 2 brackets/bolts in the upper corners that need to be removed. You can then pop it up.

WHY DOES MY NEPTUNE MATAG DRYER MDE5500AYW NOT HEAT ...AND WHERE ARE THE THERMAL SWITCH, HI LIMIT THERMOSTAT, AND HEATING ELEMENT?

All those parts are in the bottom front. TURN off the power! then open the front door and remove the 4 screw's, 2 on the hindges and 2 on the other side. Then you can close the door, and pull from the top edges of the front panel(sometimes you need a thin screw driver to free the front) the front panel will tilt forward and then you can lift it off. You will need a Ohm meter to check those parts for continuity. Make sure you remove the wires from the part you are testing.

Neptune dryer 5500 no power

This dryer has 2 thermal fuses. One next to the control stat on the blower housing and another on the heater element. You could quite possibly have a bad blower wheel or simply a lint build up cauing over heating. To get inside this dryer you remove the door first. The you can remove the front. Once that is removed you can pop the top and get the front shroud off. You cannot work from behind.

No heat coming out to dry clothes, can the heating element be replaced

yes, it is located on the back right inside of the dryer.
1) unplug dryer
2) open door remove screws
3) with a flat tip screw driver pry gently up on the top corners it will pop
4) move front panel forward and disconnect door switch
5) sit panel aside
6) lift top lid of dryer 90 degrees it has clip/hinged on back
7) look to the right back of dryer, it looks like a spring in a metal box disconnect and replace.
Hope this helps Tim

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Maytag neptune dryer will not start

Ok here is what I would do. The first thing I want to do is check the door switch. If that switch is broken the dryer won't go BUT the lights would all be on and the duct fuse intact. If that turned out to be ok, I would remove the ducting60b599d.jpg in the rear and look for excessive lint and fluff in the vent hose and the vent pipe to outside. I would look next at the filter and inside the filter housing for fluff and lint. If I saw something I thought might be causing an air restriction I would then guess the duct fuse was blown. Does that make sense to you? I Would need to unplug the machine and move it to a work bench lift or tailgate. b5d8bb1.jpgIf the top pops i would pop that top Note( if the dryer is a slopehead I would start by removing the door and goalpost front d2679bf.jpgthen pop the top and remove the shroud and drum) I would look2849823.jpg for a loose blower wheel and fluff. I would check the duct fuse

Dryer too hot...no cool down

no the thermal fuse has nothing to do with that, although it will open again if too hot and that may be why it opened in the first place.most high heat ,long dry times are the house ducting.try this experiment.remove your dryer from the house ducting and dry a load[it wont hurt a thing]if not as hot, then get that ducting cleaned.if still hot then make sure the inner dryer air ways are clean.your blower is spinning fine[not broken on the shaft]and also check with ohm meter,or visually that your heating element is not shorted to ground[then it by passes the cycling thermostat.if all those things good and still getting high heat i may replace the cycling thermo.but as a repairman i did not have to do that very often.most of the time it was the other possibles. i hope this helps abit God bless ,tom
