Question about Canon FAXPHONE L80 Laser

3 Answers

Canon L80 prints with 1/2" blotches, in a column down the page, where the toner has not been heated and is not "set." Seems that something is on a roller somewhere and is blocking the toner from setting properly on the paper. How can this be cleaned?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Check the two rollers where the printout roll in between. The smudge/blotch would be caused by a smear or foreign mater adhering to the surface of one.

Post back result(s). Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

1. Remove any documents and printouts from the machine.

2. Make sure the machine is plugged in.

3. Lift the latch and open the front cover.

Do not try to open the front cover without lifting the latch since this may damage your machine.

4. Hold the cartridge by its handle and remove it from the machine.

5. Remove the new FX-3 cartridge from its protective bag.

6. Gently rock the cartridge from side to side a few times to distribute the toner evenly inside it.
Then reinsert it and then try to print and also check the toner level if there is low toner in cart ...IF its low change the toner and try to print ...

Good luck....

Hi!
Use a vacuum cleaner with toner filter, vacuum debris from the exposed paper path, especially under toner cartridges.
Use clean, slightly water-moistened towels to wipe remaining dust or toner. Do not use solvents to clean internal printer surfaces such as belts or rollers.

Avoid touching delicate drums or belts, wipe off loose toner and debris from toner cartridges and other supply items.
Thanks

Do not touch the edge of the plate at the upper side of the transfer roller because it is sharp.

When the printer's automatic density control (ADC) sensor is dirty, follow the procedure below to clean it.

    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Push the front latch up and fully open the front cover.

    3. Grip the tabs at both ends of the transfer roller and gently lift it out of the printer.

Do not touch inside the printer with your hands. Some parts may be hot. Allow time for the printer to cool before attempting to remove parts in this area.

    1. Gently wipe the automatic density control (ADC) sensor window with a clean dry cloth or cotton swab.

    2. Do not allow anything hard to come in contact with the automatic density control (ADC) sensor window. Do not use excessive force to clean the window.

    6. Replace the transfer roller. Grip the tabs as shown

Align the arrow marks on the transfer roller to the marks on the printer, and gently push the roller into the printer.

To lock the transfer roller into the printer push down the tabs until you hear a click

    Close the front cover

Where do you get refill ink for canon fax phoneL80

The Canon Faxphone L80 takes a Canon FX3 cartridge. To get the highest quality refill I would first see if there is a Cartridge World store in your area. Cartridge World stores refill most cartridges in house with American made parts. Then try Office Depot. Office Depot is the only big box store that actually "remanufactures" toner cartridges. I would not recommend cheap refills or refill kits from the internet. Many use very low quality toner that wears on parts leading to print defects or they reuse parts that already generate print defects. DO NOT buy a "compatible" cartridge, these are not refills. They are new cartridge replicas and have no recycled components.

Canon faxphone L80 parts available? paper feed shaft broke in half

The L80 printer guts are very similar to the HP 5L and HP 6L printer (Not well known, but the printing engines on many HP printers are made by Canon). In fact it is almost possible to use a 5L/6L toner cartridge in the L80, but as I recall there was a plastic nub that prevented it from fitting properly. This is probably meant to force the user to buy more expensive Canon toner carts instead of using cheaper generics for the 5L/6L. Try HP PartSurfer and you may be able to locate the part that you need.

Toner Smearing

It's actually heat and pressure, that 'melts" the toner to the page, and what is happening in your case, is that the pressure roller is worn out, so you're not getting the contact between the heat and pressure rollers necessary to properly adhere the toner. This will require a service tech should you want to spend the money to repair it.

RECEIVED FAXES AND/OR COPIES PRINT ONLY HALF PAGE

Don't know that machine all that well, but it sounds like the laser filter glass may be dirty, or the laser unit. It seldom happens, but did you by any chance blow it out with compressed air?
Anyway, you may try taking out the toner cartridge, and if you tilt the machine upward you should see a sort of 'filter glass" above where the cartridge sits that allows the laser light to pass through from above. try cleaning this with a cloth, and hopefully that will solve your problem.
