Hi there...maybe i have solution....when you restart your T21 you may see at first loading you must press F8 after a minute windows will give you some choice...better you chose " start last known good configuration.." press ENTER .your OS automatically back with last configuration that you have been work before. after you can entering main windows try to scan you T21 with update anti virus that you have..i recommenedyou can use norton 2008 .

if it doesn't work press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" at the same time system will reboot again and press F8 you can chose another "Start Windows Normally " and scan you T21 with anti virus...good luck sir..

Hi there
What you have to do is enter the bios, strike F2 on boot up and change the boot order to the CD/DVD drive, save changes and exit, make sure the CD is in the drive at the time.
When the machine restarts it should now boot from the CD and you can proceed with the clean install

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Put your Windows XP disk in the drive then restart the system. If it is the original disk it and you are just trying to restore the system to Factory Original, It will start from the disk and ask you what you would like to do to restore system.

Performance is very slow of Dell Inspiron N4020 with Win7 OS. Please help me out.

Hi there,

Did you get this laptop with the Windows 7 installed or you upgraded from a lower version to Windows 7?

Windows 7 requires a huge amount of RAM (memory) and a good compatible video card. (because of the aero feature). If you don't meet the recommended system requriements, there is a big possiblity that your system will slow down.

If you have a good hardware and it is still slow, check your computer for possible virus infection or any application that consumes system resources. (e.g. Antivirus Software when running a full scan)

Hope this helps.

My thinkpad T21 hs a fake 'msn' virus. it keeps asking for my credit card info to 'renew my registry'. I cannot get it to connect to the internet to download virus programs. how to I clear off hhardrive...

The best and safest way is to reinstall Windows. And that too after formatting the HDD while installing. The virus has done its job. Sorry to hear your story but too bad. And also change all your previous passwords immediately as the virus may have sent your passwords to whomsoever it was supposed to. Before the damage occurs, change all passwords. And use new ones after installing an anti virus program.

PHRHYC?

To get rid of this completely and get the system back up and running, you will need to reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system. Be sure to do a full NTFS format to ensure that complete removal of this bug, not the quick format.

VIRUS INFECTION , YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED

this is what sounds like a trojan or for of spyware, probably disguised as a screen saver. If you have no anti virus installed download this programme for free http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free If you have no anti spyware programme download this for free. http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 on the laptop press Ctrl, Alt & delete or right click on task bar to get to the task manager and on the processes tab look for the scrensaver.exe or similair that is running, click on it and press end process. this should allow you to work with windows Install the programmes, then go to system restore tab in my computer>right click>properties>system restore tab and click 'turn off system restore'(this will stop any virus or spyware backups reinstalling). Run both the programmes and remove any spyware or virus. If it still appears you may have to uninstall it safe mode, which is press F8 key on start up and select 'start windows in safe mode' and run the antivirus and spyware programmes again.

How to find how to restore used laptop back to like new condition

This laptop is fairly old so your options are limited: -Use the original recovery CD. If you don?t have it you?re out of luck since IBM only provides them for laptops that came with OS XP or Vista installed. You might try looking on Ebay, occasionally I see recovery disks for older HP and IBM computers listed. -Use the hard drive service partition if it still exists on your hard drive. The procedure to activate the recovery can be found at this link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4UFUYK -If these won?t work for you the last option is to obtain an operating system that will run on your laptop. At various times it shipped with W95, 98, ME, NT and 2000 so depending on memory any of them should work OK. Do a typical OS installation then apply the appropriate drivers as necessary. Also here are some additional links for your T21: -Manual downloads: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=50268&brandind=10&doccategoryind=0&modelind=0&doctypeind=8&validate=true&partnumberind=0&sitestyle=lenovo&template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%2FproductPageLandingPage.vm&operatingsystemind=49979&machineind=0 -Operating system install instructions and hardware driver downloads: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=50268&brandind=10&doccategoryind=0&modelind=0&doctypeind=10&validate=true&partnumberind=0&sitestyle=lenovo&template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%2FproductPageLandingPage.vm&operatingsystemind=49979&machineind=0 -Additional drivers & downloads: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=50268&brandind=10&doccategoryind=0&modelind=0&doctypeind=9&validate=true&partnumberind=0&sitestyle=lenovo&template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%2FproductPageLandingPage.vm&operatingsystemind=49979&machineind=0 Good luck and don?t forget to rate this posting.
