    Hi

i finally got it to switch on , and got this error code obstruction the air flow from the system fan vents

call dell support with this error code m1004, i stripped down the laptop cleaned the fan which had little or no dirt around it, repasted the cpu ,updated the bios still the same problem, also if i try to switch on with the battery installed it will not switch on, remove the battery and it will come on with the same error press f1 to cont and it will run normal i reinstalled the battery with the laptop on and it is fully charged five green lights on test i had only 2 green lights so it is charging ok, just fitted the battery again and unplugged the power adapter laptop running ok, until i switch off i have to remove battery for it to come on again, mind boggling.

    thanks for your reply

Did you try removing all power source (battery and the main connection) and then putting it back on?
and also check the processer fan might be the fan is not working so, the laptop off after some sec.

Hi, How old is the Laptop? How did the problem start off?
I doubt if the motherboard is dead, else you should see at least the startup screen.
Try this: Remove the battery and try to start the system while power is connected.

Remove the battery from its back by removing the latch from its back and reinsert it again and check out.

Unplug the AC adapter, remove the battery and wait for 1-2 minutes. After that plug the AC adapter ans try starting the laptop again. Sometimes this trick helps.

It also could be a memory related problem. Try reseating the memory module, just remove it from the slot on the motherboard and install it back. Try installing the memory module into the other slot (if it’s available). If you have two memory modules installed, try removing them one by one and start the laptop just with one memory module installed.

If you are getting no power from the adapters but you know the adapters are fine the problem could either be from the battery or the adapter input port. Try another battery and if that does not work you will need to repair the port.

Having to remove the battery and then plug in to charge and reinsert the battery is a problem with the battery itself. You will need to replace it in order for that problem to go away.

I Have a Dell Latitude D800 and it's plugged into power. when i hit the start button it lights up a couple of lights on the keyboard, they go out after a couple of seconds and then nothing happens?

Is the battery charging? and is the power adaptor properly plugged in? If yes then it's probably a faulty PSU and you will need to phone DELL for a replacement/repair.

Dell Latitude D800 Wont Power Up

Check the status of the battery directly from the battery. Turn the laptop over and on the batter is an battery indicator button and lights to tell you if it's charged. If it is charged then you have an problem internally. Wiggle the tip of the power cord at the laptop connection to see if it is loose, if it is then you have an loose connection on the motherboard which can be fixed by an experienced tech that can solder or the motherboard will need to be replaced.

Beep noise during booting and no keyboard response

Sounds like the key is stuck. You will have to remove the keypad to check the switch underneath.

D800 will not even boot

Okay, I had that problem with my HP less than a minute ago.

Maybe it is the same problem. See if the battery light comes on. Press the power button again and again if it doesn't start, for some time. It may show the boot screen and hang. Now, the battery must be charged. Shut it down directly and switch the AC off.

Now, switch it on and see if the battery light comes on. If it does, it is the same problem as mine. Now, turn the PC over and remove the battery carefully. There may be switches for that.

Now, plug in the AC and start it without the battery in. If it does, you're done. Now, plug in the battery again.
