Can you hear a fan behind the fridg working?
If not then the condesor cooling fan has quit working and is easy to replace. (this cools the coolant down before its enters back to the pump.

Can you hear a fan inside the fridg and freezer?
If not the the cooling coil fan has quit working and is easy to replace. (this blows on the coils and were the cold air comes from.

If all of the above is fine. Then the compressor is bad or it has leaked freon.

Being that there is a bad odor that is a sign of a burnt up fan motor or compressor.

Clean out the dust and lint from the coils under the ice box. make sure the fan motor blade is turning. Check the back wall of the freezer for frost.Remove the compressor relay and give it a shake. If it sounds like a salt shaker it is bad, if it makes no noise it is bad, You should hear and feel the floating start switch. let me know

Refrigerator dead: it may be that the defrost timer has went into
defrost and got hung up there. Twist the timer around several times and
it may start working till you can get another.
Refrigerator runs all the time: The thermostat is fried (internal contacts stuck together) replace it.

Compressor won't run: burned up relay. Remove the relay from the
compressor and shake it. If small particles come out or it sounds like
a salt shaker or there is no sound at all or it smells and looks burned
then it is bad. Replace it.

Freezer getting warmer freshfood not cool at all: Check under the
bottom for the fan motor to be running and the cob webs, dust, dirt,
and pet hair, off the condenser coils. If the fan underneath has quit
then the ice box won't get cold.

Everything is freezing over in the bottom and the top. Bad cold control.

Do I need freon? 99% of the time NO. Most of the time it is a
dirty coils problem or a bad fan motor, unless you have a leak. Since
the ice box only holds 4 ounces of freon it would quit cooling at all
in a short time if it had a leak.Their would be no halfway cooling, not
    for long anyway.

Ice maker on whirlpool quit working .

If it's like my Samsung, there is a reset micro switch button in front of the box containing the ice cube tray. Press it and the machine resets, the ice cube tray rotates, dumping the cubes. It then rights itself and fills with water. Hope this helps.

Jenn-Air bottom freezer ice maker not working

I took the arm of the ice-making machine out of the slot and put it back in, pushing it snugly inside the slot, then raised and lowered it several times. Then, with the arm in the up (stop making ice) position, I felt inside the ice-making tray, where I noted there were ice cubes as well as a sheet of ice at the base of the ice-making tray. I poured approximately 24 oz. of hot tap water into the tray to melt the sheet of ice. I turned the freezer temp control to "warmer". I think the freezer temp setting was too cold, causing the ice maker to freeze the water before it could make cubes. I have a working ice maker again!

Ice maker doesn't make enough ice to supply two senior citizens. This is the 2nd refrigerator we have had installed this month. What can we do to increase the amount of ice it puts out. The ice bin has...

Found in the FAQ section on
Samsung refrigerator freezers produce about 120 cubes per day, which is in line with most manufacturer specifications.
Empty the ice tray and let the unit run for 24 hours.
If fewer than 50 cubes are produced during the 24-hour test, then your refrigerator requires service. Please contact Samsung Service at 1-800-SAMSUNG to schedule a service appointment.
If your freezer is producing 50 to 90 cubes per day, try the following:
  • Set the freezer temperature display to a lower setting. Freezer temperature must be 5 degrees Fahrenheit or less for the ice maker to work properly.
  • Make sure that the water valve on the refrigerator water supply line is completely open. You can find the water valve where the refrigerator water supply line taps into your house water line.
  • If you have a water filter in your refrigerator, change the filter cartridge. For instructions, see your Users Manual.
If you want your freezer to produce more than 120 ice cubes in a day, try the following:
  • An ice maker typically makes 1 tray of ice every 90 minutes. To shorten the amount of time the freezer takes to produce a tray of ice, set the freezer temperature display to a lower setting.
  • If your refrigerator has a Power Freeze function, press the Power Freeze button to speed up the ice making process. In the Power Freeze mode, both the compressor and the freezer fan run for 10 hours continuously. The ice making interval is reduced from 90 minutes to 55 minutes. If the ice bucket fills in less than 10 hours, Power Freeze stops automatically.
NOTE: If you have just installed your refrigerator, it will take 6 to 12 hours for the refrigerator to produce ice.
You should throw away the first three batches of ice cubes that the ice maker produces (approximately 30 cubes) to ensure the ice maker is making ice from clean water.
