To connect the power cable, just take the 4-pin connector coming from the fan and connect it to any 4 pin connector coming from the power supply. you can then use the 4-pin connector to power a cd/ dvd drive or ATA hard drive

Most DVD burners require a power cable as well as a USB cable. Check the slots on the back to be sure, check for any holes that are round with a pin in the middle, or possibly three different holes in some cases. If you see a slot like that, you need your power cable.

There is a large chance your laptop/netbook does not provide adequate power to properly power the unit, this is the case in 80% of netbooks/laptops and portable PC's. The only way through this is to purchase a USB WALL POWER CABLE or USB AC Adapter, then can be purchased anywhere from $2.00 to the higher end ones for $19.99 with all the bell's, whistles and additional outlets, you can find them on AMAZON.COM or BUY.COM or anywhere.

Hope that helps, you will see the use and this is the future of power units, USB is the future of power, and USB requires no voltage and less conductivity to produce power. Safe, low required power for the world!!! LOL!! It is how it is people!

Which connections do I use to hook it up?

When you break into the computer (disconnected from power, please), the sockets on the back of the burner will only fit a couple of plugs (power and data) - just inspect it closely, don't force the data plug as it goes in only one way. Same for the power plug. Some burners have a little two conductor small plug that hooks up to some sound cards. In most cases you can leave this off if you don't have instructions with your burner. Good luck.

Reading disks but wont burn them

The only "help" is to purchase a new "internal" CD-writer, disassemble the casing, remove the "dead" CD-writer, insert the new one, and reassemble the casing.

Fan

Your motherboard has quite a few little three pin white plugs on it, look closely and you will see them on the motherboard. These are auxillary fan plugs and power all the extra fans you can install in your case. Just attach the plug from the fan into one of these sockets. They only go in one way.

Dvd drive

Sounds like you purchased a SATA drive when you need a IDE drive...or vise versa. Check the box. If that's the case, just exchange the drive for the proper one.
