Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Whirpool washing machine has no cold water going thru the cycle but the hot water is, I unhooked the cold line from the main entering point from the braided hose ,put a bucket under and it did run out of cold line. Just when it is hooked up it won't run cold water into the tub, just hot line works. Any idea what it could be ? Thanx Robb

It appears your dual inlet water valve has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to or and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II is not working properly

its is proberly the cold water vavle open circiut what happends is that if you where doing a normal load when this happend first time the computer in the machine will have stuck on that wash cycle and by putting it on a cold wash it will still fill up with hot water but dont worry if the cold vavle is replaced it will finnish the wash that it started (if this makes sence the cycle that you 1st selected might have been a low temp wash so the hot and cold will both come in together then it censes that the water is to hot so it switches the hot water valve off and the cold will stay on untill the machine fills to the crrect level and the machine carries on and complets that wash ( but because the cold valve is faulty it cant complet the only way to be sure that it is the cold valve valve is to take off the top off the machine and you will see where your cold water pipe connects thats the cold water valve usualy two valves together with 4 wires make sure you are switched off at the plug now swap the wires over on the two valves 2/&/2 one vavle is the rinse & main fill the other is the fab conditioner dont touch the hot valve wires and then what should happen is the machine will go though a complete wash but put it on the wash you started with so it can go though that wash the only thing that by doing this is that it will not take in the fab conditioner (i say it wont but it will because you swopped the wires over its going to fill the fab conditioner compartment and not the rinse compartment so swop the hoses on the valves also they will just pull off at leised you will know that is what your problem is the cold water valve is at fault. when you get the new valves dont forget to switch every thing back to how it should be ie change wires and hoses the machine may stop before spin because you have swoped the wires so dont worry it may not it is the easyest way for me to tell you how to test what i believe to be the problem you can get a set of water valves on line just type in washing machines put in your make model no and water valves or water soliniods and you will find them it will give you the price before you buy anymore help let me know

Washing machine cycle far too long

Hi Fiona.I believe the cold valve is probably faulty & is not flowing fast Its probably dribbling water in?taking forever to fill.the machine should be giving up & beeping at you if thats the case.If you have a faulty cold valve then switching to warm won't help as the hot valve will close itself off to compensate for the lack of cold water..afterall you have told the machine to fill with warm,,if it cant make warm water because of a faulty cold valve then the hot will decrease to a point where its not letting any water thru..try a hot only wash..if it goes thru wash cycle ok then good chance its cold valve i hope that helped.

Washer does not allow hot water to enter machine when you press the heavy duty button. Regular warm cycle or hot works fine. Replaced the water valves, main control panel.

This is a common question we face daily. Certain washing machines allow hot water to enter only during certain cycles. Others allow hot and cold to enter intermittently. Consult your owner's manual to be absolutely sure about this. If you're sure the machine isn't working the way it used to--or should--try these tests:
Is the hot water turned on? If not, turn it on.
Is the washer getting cold water but no hot water? If so, check to see if the control panel
settings are correct.

Cold water knob is not working

Check the screen on the cold valve. If power is getting to the valve and the screens are clean then the coil is bad. Check continuity if you have a meter.

Hot water thru out the house

The problem is solved, it was a single handle shower valve in the open hot position when my wife washed her hair, she turned the water off at the shower head. This forced hot water into the cold pipes when a faucet down the line was opened. Thnks for the help.

Water only fills the machine in certain parts of cycle

a 90* wash will fill mainly with hot water / a 40* wash will fill mainly with cold water, this is normal action, rinses fill up with cold water only

is this what you are describing, if so thats normal, especially if its doing the job correctly
