Will not switch on. Power light comes on. The fan starts, but won't boot up at all. The battery seems to be fully charged. Any ideas please.

If the fans are blowing and you feel air coming out, Then it might be the GPU (Graphics card). In which you would have to have it proffesionally fixed. But if nothing comes on then it might be your battery, Try taking it out and leaving it out for about an hour. Put it back in and hold the power button till it cycles on and off.

My advent notebook has started to make a very loud buzzing noise intermittently, much too loud to be caused by mobile phone interference etc?

If the noise isn't coming from a speaker, you could need to replace the fan on your computer. The bearings for it might be busted, another issue could be the speaker wire isn't fully connected internally, which you could fix by popping off the top power panel area and fastening the speaker wire in it.

I hope this helps, if not I apologize. The question isn't super vague, but it still has holes in it. :) I can to help more if you post more about the issue.

My laptop keeps switching itsself off

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Dell D500 Laptop will not boot up. Lights light up on power board, power light comes on, then all off after a couple of seconds. Fan does not spin. Battery is very nearly fully charged, and charges...

it seems like that there is a power issue with your laptop. It is more than likely that your laptop is fully charged, but the charge is not enough for the laptop to operate. You can always try a different battery if you have (which is, let's face it, usually rare).
If this happens only when your laptop is not connected to the plug, than you will have to replace the battery.
check also if the laptop gets too hot. if it does. it will shut down automatically, just like a car.

Plug in battery, power light and fan noise cycles on and off

I think it probably went into hibernate. Remove the battery while unplugged from the a/c adaptor for a few minutes. Plug it into the a/c adaptor, and see if it will boot up.
