My Acer Aspire 5100 keeps rebooting. This is what the screen says: INTEL UMDI PXE2 REALTEK RTL8139 PCI FAST ETHERNET CONTROLLER PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE PXE-M0F: EXITING PXE ROM That is all...

The error message means that your system is trying to boot from LAN ie... Network boot enabled in your BIOS.

Since the system can't find any where to boot from. It is restarting.

Also probably your bootloader on the harddrive is corrupt. Please reinstall the operating system using a CD/DVD.

Tip

Known ram issue

With the aspire 5100 series there is a known issue with ram that causes all sorts of glitches, freezing and reboot. Upon a ram test, the ram will say errors accross the board and replacing the ram will yield the same result. The fix is to update the bios firmware and it will resolve the ram issue. Go to acer's website and click on support and drivers, type in your model number and get the latest bios update..follow the bios update instructions on the site.

I bought a new hard drive for my acer 5100 and it

The different model of hard drive should not make a difference. As long as you are using the same type....IDE or SATA...you should be fine.

If you installed the new drive and now the computer keeps rebooting....you probably need to tell the computer to boot from the CD first and not the Hard Drive. When you first turn on the laptop, boot into BIOS by hitting the DELETE or F2 key....it is normally the Delete key.

This will boot into BIOS where you can find the BOOT OPTION menu and select the CD as the first boot device. This will allow the computer to boot from the Windows CD you should already have in your cd drive.

If this does not help.... I would take the new hard drive out and boot the computer without any drive installed. If you are still in a reboot loop, the problem is not with the hard drive and more than likely an issue with the RAM. To rule out the RAM, take one stick out and see if that makes a difference...repeat with the second stick....

Hope this helps

Can't get he dvd to work on my acer 5100 after xp installed

You may need to Flash the bios with the bios.
Going from Vista to XP on Acer 5100
The acer website site for the 5100 series located here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5100.html

You can get all the XP drivers for your 5100 series there. Bios also. If the upgraded bios does not fix it then go to control panel, system, device manager, hardware and uninstall the dvd player all together. reboot. If this does not fix it go to the dvd players web site and download a FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR IT make SURE IT IS THE RIGHT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR DVD PLAYER. Match all numbers and letter that id your drive. Good Luck. Please rate me.

Touchpad on acer aspire 5100 series is locked

plug in a usb mouse, go to control panel>system>harware>device manager and click on the + sign next to pointing devices. Right click the touchpad and click on uninstall. Reboot the laptop and unplug the usb mouse. This should pick up the touchpad as new hardware and reinstall it. Hopefully this will resolve the problem.

Try booting from an OS installer CD then use the scandisk (Windows 98) or chkdsk (Windows XP) function upon appearance of the C: prompt, then reboot.

If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run. When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode. Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots. Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
