Computer doesn't show DVD/CD drive

DVD/CD drive doesn't work. My computer doen't even show the drive. Device manager info say's "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". I clicked on the check online for a solution and get nothing. Attemped to download a driver update and microsoft site says I have the latest driver.

I'm not very computer savy and at the far end of my ability, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

My Cd/DVD burner has disappeared I have tried deleting the upper and lower filters and it still doesn't show up the tray opens the light comes on but it's not usable or found anywhere I have an HP...

Try this:

I have to ask, after deleting the upper & lower filters did you reboot the PC?

If so try this:
Go to:
Start>(right click on Computer)left click on Manage.
Left click on Device Manager
Locate your DVD/CD-Rom drives.
Right Click on the DVD/CD Rom-drive> uninstall Now reboot the PC.

If the drive does not come back in Computer> devices with removeable storage go back to Device Manager (Start>right click computer>Device Manager) to see if you can see DVD/CD Rom-drive.If you dont see the drive in this location then it sounds as if your DVD/CDRom-drive is no longer working and you will have to replace it.

Good luck!

Check my verify code

Unfortunately this can be a difficult question to answer because of the amount of potential reasons for this issue to occur

Verify you have the latest drivers installed for the CD-R or recordable drive. There are numerous driver related issues that may cause a CD-R drive or other recordable to stop reading a CD-R disc. If you are running Microsoft Windows verify your drive is properly detected and listed in Device Manage with no conflicts or errors.

If Windows Device Manager detects an error on the drive or if it has other drives listed in Device Manager with errors on them remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the computer to let Windows re-initialize the drive.

If Windows shows no errors, the above steps did not resolve the issue, or you are running a different operating system check with the drive manufacturer for updated drivers.

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or the drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd drive restart your computer then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

LG GH22NS70 Super multi DVD Rewriter just used

Power cable attached, interface cable attached, (Dta cable), and the small audio cable attached, plus computer on, and Windows loaded.

Windows XP:
1) Click on Start

2) Right-click on My Computer

3) Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list

4) Left-click on the Hardware tab

5) Left-click on Device Manager

6) When Device Manager loads, left-click on the + sign to the left of - DVD/CD-ROM drives

7) Right-click on the name of the optical drive.

8) Left-click on Uninstall

A Microsoft 'squawk box' will come up,
"Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
It's okay. Click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Turn the computer off normally. (Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off)

Wait 1 minute. Turn the computer back on.
You should get a pop-up out of the system tray, "Found new hardware", and perhaps another one will follow, "Found XXXX DVD drive"

No? Doesn't work?
Try using another 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

(The IDE harddrive shown, is just an example of a device that uses a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable. Mistakenly referred to as a 'Molex' power cable)

Make sure the interface cable (Data cable) is plugged in tightly.

Drive not showing in WinXP (error code 39)Liteon Combo SOHC-5236v

After loading the Windows, the DVD/CD-ROM drives work properly, but we can not see the drives in “My Computer” (System can not recognize the drives.). When try to run the drives, it shows up a notice “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code39).” Before solving this error, check the drives connection correctly, then follow the steps below:
Delete Device Manager. Most people will firstly think of Windows “Find New Hardware” when drives missed, but it does not always work out. To fix the problem: open “My Computer”’ “Control Panel” ’“System”’“Device Manager”’ “HDC(Hard Disk Controller) ”, then click “Delete”. Follow the note to reboot computer. After rebooting, the computer will find the Primary IDE Controller and Secondary IDE Controller again and install the drivers. Restart the computer again while the installation is completed. In this, we can get back our CD/DVD-ROM Drives.

The other way is by editing the registry to return the missed CD/DVD-ROM drives (Code 39 error.). Obviously, it is too risky to edit the registry if you are not familiar with it. To fix the error from the registry, carry out the following steps:
Exit and close all applications currently running on your PC.
Step1. Click Start > Run and type in Regedit, press Enter.
Step2. Look for the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete any of the following registry entries under this key directory:
LowerFilters
LowerFilters.bak
UpperFilters
UpperFilters.bak
Step3. Reboot your PC and open My Computer to check that the CD-ROM drive is visible.
Also, have a look at the Device Manager to see if the yellow exclamation mark and the error code 39 are gone.

System errors are not welcome guests that bring up unhappy computing experience. Registry Easy (www.registryeasy.com) is a professional troubleshooting system maintenance tool that can help you to solve this error and many more.

Inside the Control Panels, look for System. Double-click System and choose Device Manager. Inside Device Manager, find the CD/DVD and "Uninstall" the device. Restart the computer and let it re-load the driver. This might help. You can also try a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner.
