Question about Amana PBE12 Wall/Window Air Conditioner

My unit is a heat pump that cools and heats.

I have had the unit in for about 4 months now and it heats once and a while. Most of the time it just runs and doesn't the the air. I have had a man come and work on it twice but he did not find the problem. Now I need someone that can fix the problem. It is under warranty. I purchased it from Rainbow Appliace on line. The are not responding to my emails. Who do I call

If it is under warranty you could call the manufacture and put in a complaint. get the model and serial number and go online to get phone number. Let the manufacture know your not happy and to send somebody that can fix it. It sounds like you might have an intermintent problem meaning sometimes it can hard to diagnose. Be patient it will be fixed. there are alot of things it could be, so I can't tell you how to fix it unless I was to look at it myself. good luck

What is a condenser?
Is a device or unit used to condense vapor into liquid. A condenser is simply one component of an air conditioner. Whether you have an outdoor air conditioner or a window unit air conditioner your air conditioner contains a condenser.
Condensers are used in outdoor air conditioning systems as well as heat pump systems. Condensers in an air conditioning unit have very few controls. They will have an on and off switch. Occasionally these air conditioners will also have a brown out option. This option shuts down the compressor when the electrical current is low.
A condenser is simply a heat exchanger. It compresses refrigerants into a hot gas to then condense them into a liquid. A condenser is a major component in a air conditioning or heat pump unit. It moves air across the coils to facilitate the transfer of heat.
In a heat pump unit the condenser has a few more features. It will have a reverse valve that allows the unit to switch back and forth between air conditioning and heating. Even when the unit is heating, it uses the condenser for defrosting the coils. If the coils become layered with frost it will effect the units effectiveness this is defrosted when the reverse valve switches to air conditioning mode to move the hot gases through the coils melting the built up ice. It will automatically switch back to heating mode once the ice is cleared to once again heat the home.
To keep your unit in good operating condition it is vital to keep the area around the condenser clear of all debris as well as keeping the filter clear of dust and dirt. A clean machine makes a happy machine. A happy machine will keep you cool during the summer months and warm during the cold months. It is suggested to change the units filters when they become dirty, depending on your area and conditions near your home this may be as often as once a month or as seldom as every 3 to 6 months. You will have to pay close attention to your units needs to decide the right time to change or clean your unit’s filters.
It is very important no matter what type of unit you have to prevent the blockage of the condenser. If the condenser becomes block it can effect the units efficiency or even cause the until to completely fail. For this reason it is one of the most important components of a cooling or heating system. A condenser allows the maximum airflow to the unit.

A/C does not cool like it used to, unit runs


sound like your system is under sized. for every 400 sq ft of living space you should have a ton of ac or 12000 btus. also check and see if your attic fan is working. any drafty windows or doors. your supply temp should be at least 20 deg colder then your return temp. also check your filter should be changed every three months this will help with air flow.

Noisy and inconsistent cooling


It could be that there is a problem with the Thermostat\low voltage switching. Some heat pumps have reversing valves activated for cooling , sometimes for heating. Whoever installed this for you is totally responsible for your unit still. There can be a number of things going wrong, like no filter drier in stalled and sporatically clogging the refrigerant and making a lot of noise. Call the installer back.

GE Room Heat/Cool unit will not heat with heat pump


If it was me I would cnage the sensor first. Simply because it is way cheaper than the control board and these sensors are fickle as hell to begin with.

Heat Pump Stops Working only in the Early Morning


When the unit does what you say does the fan motor outside stop also , if it does that means it is in defrost mode and should kick back over to normal after the system heats up the coil enough

Hi- Can not tell if my unites are straight cool / heat or a heat pump.


if you look inside the condenser unit outside,see if you see the big reversing valve,if not it is a straight cool,heat, the heat strip ins in the air handler so you would have to take the side panel off and look for the heat stripe,my the way heat pumps also have a aux.heat stripe just in case it does not get cold enough outside,hope this helps you-mike

Ruud heat pump question


Does the air handler take a minute or two to start, this would be normal so that it doesn't blow cool air into the house before the unit is warmed up. If not could be the fan relay is weak and needs replacing. As far as the outside unit it sounds like you need to check the refrigerant. In cooling they are 70/150 psi. This should be checked in cooling mode, once you turn it to heating mode the pressures switch bring heat inside the house instead of out. I hope this helps.
