Hi Kathy,

Are you ready?

1. Make sure the Nikon SC-29's Red Panel's Lock Switch is set to the Left. Pointing at Left Black Screw.
2. Connect the Nikon SC-29's (Red Panel) to your camera's Hotshoe by pushing it as far as it goes.
3. Turn Lock Switch to the Right (turn CW). This locks down to camera.
4. Make sure Nikon SC-29 (other ends) AF-ILL is set to OFF.
5. Make sure your Nikon SB-800's Lock Switch is set to the left side.
6. Attach your Nikon SB-800 into this Hotshoe.
7. Switch the Lock Switch on flash to the right.
8. When you wants to AF from flash, set AF-ILL to "OFF"
9. For the best results, set AF-ILL to "ON".

I teaches, do repairs, services and modifications on all photographic equipments.

I hope they are helpful to you as well as for any Nikon Photographers using the Nikon SC-29 Cable.

Mine has Autofocus, ITTL, Slave and Wireless Radio Remote Flash.

Can I use Speedlight SB-50DX with Canon EOS Rebel Xti

It is not possible to use the Nikon SB-50DX directly on a Canon EOS Rebel camera. The Nikon flash gun hot shoe contacts do not match the Canon hot shoe contacts.
You can use the Nikon as a slave flash gun with a PC flash cord that matches the Nikon's flash contacts then connect the end of this flash cord to a flash trigger. The Canon's flash can then trigger the Nikon flash gun via the flash trigger.

I was using the D80 with an SB-800 Speedlight and at one point the buit in flash popped up. I now cannot get the built in flash to lock in the down position.

This must be because the SB800 was not seated in properly or was turned off when you used the cam.

Use one of the manual settings (A or S) and you should be able to keep the built in flash down (unless it was physically damaged that u need to bring it to the repair shop)

Sb600 compatibilily with d80 how simple? advise settings for portraits

Leave the flash in ttl, with the backlight setting on. The flash should be off camera to one side at a bout a 45 degree angle to the subject. you should get an off camera flash cord like the one shown http://www.spartanphotocenter.com/spec-sheet.html?catalog[name]=Nikon-SC-29-TTL-Coiled-Remote-Cord-flash-cord&catalog[product_guids][0]=08e8b97d-5f2f-4b4a-9ed7-2adb002dd0cf this will allow you to get a more pleasing side light. the camera can be set where ever you are most comfortable.

No iTTL mode (or TTL mode) in SB 800 synced with cord to D300

Bingo! That's an X-sync cable, only for firing the flash, syncing it withe shutter - carries out no auto features or communication with the camera.
Don't waste your money on another cable the same. There is no TTL light measuring features with an X-sync cable.
You can, however, get the proper 'off-the-camera' TTL syncing cable either from Nikon or a 3rd party provider. This proper TTL cable can cost a fair bit, I don't know exactly but thinking from $40-$50 to $80'odd.
Shop around, buy from a store where you have the face-to-face enquiry and a return facility if 'they' get it wrong.
