Question about NEC MultiSync LCD1830 18.1" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Black screen First NEC 18.3 quit just before my "2 year" warranty expired.(Not 3 years) Was replaced and now just under or around the 3rd year mark it also went black. A local "expert" tells me that the back light doesn't function as he can see a silhouette in the background. I paid over $1000 at the time and nobody wants to give me a repair cost. Since the drastic price drop on good quality monitors nowadays is it worth the repair? Thanx Jake

Re: Black screen

If ya can get the parts easily then it's NOT too hard to replace the "Back light" there isn't too much inside these monitors, generally there are 3 main parts the LCD and it's electronics, a Video interface for Monitor - PC,and the Power Supply Unit, (PSU). I have found that a VERY high percentage of problems with Monitors like this are in the PSU, and generally it is faulty, Electrolytic Capacitors... Personally unless it was an "Easy Fix" I would opt for another unit with a 3 year warrenty...

This model is no longer listed under the LG Electronics Warranty Claims List. That would indicate that the warranty status of this monitor is now expired.
Another verification would be to look at the date on the sticker on the back of the monitor. Monitors will carry warranties varying from 1, 3, and 5 years. I believe LG typically carries a 3 year warranty. If the date on the back of the monitor is older than 3 years then it is certainly out of warranty.

Monitor turns off after about 3-5 seconds

I would say your monitor is bad if you have tried it on 2 different monitors and it does the same on both. Check your warranty expiration date, some monitors have 2 or 3 years warranty. If it's still under warranty, you may be able to have it replaced or repaired.

CPU On Monitor Dead

The monitor, since it is under warranty is best to be examined by an authorized personnel or replaced. As for your laptop, I dont suppose it has a problem. Only that it should have been configured to send display to the external source once plugged.
There are 3 options
  • Native + External
  • Native alone
  • External alone
Your laptop is configured for the 3rd option. You can change this by getting into display properties and under your graphics card configuration. Please do comment if you need further assistance

MAG Innovision LT2219WDB monitor will turn on -picture up clear as ever and 2 seconds screen goes black, turn it on and off screen comes up clear as always and 2 seconds goes black. will not keep the...

I have the same problem with a customer's monitor (LT716S); it turned out to be damaged power supply board. As I understand it, MAG has a 3 year warranty on parts, will probably charge you a flat labor fee plus shipping. If you do not have your purchase documentation for warranty, dump it and replace. If you can, then you may wish to have it repaired.

My customer replaced theirs; I am trying to purchase replacement parts to repair...good luck.

Well, it's seems your monitor backlight inverter are bursted. Usually, the monitor had a 1 year for the screen panel and 3 years for parts and labors. You're still under warranty, send it back to manufacturer for repaired.

LCD Screen problem

You have a failed inverter circuit. This is a very common fault with BenQ and other LCD monitors. I have seen more FP737 and FP731's and all their cousins in the last 2 years then I care to count.

You will be best to take it to a TV technician and have them do the repair. There are ways to fix it yourself, but the chances of success are not great without a decent amount of electronic knowledge.

Call several places and get approx quotes based on the inverter fault. A lot of TV techs will not work on LCD monitors and is another good reason to call around first.

One final thing, check the manufacture date on the back of the monitor, these normally come with a 3 year warranty and it will be either expired now, or very close to it. If it is still under warranty, then contact BenQ near you to facilitate the repairs.

Hi, My name is Todd and I'm a customer advocate at Dell's corporate headquarters. My team helps customers via blogs, forums, and other tech sites online. You said the monitor is 2 years old. Do you have the original order number still? Please email me at if you can locate the order number and I'll be glad to see if its still under the manufacturer warranty. Include my first name (Todd) in the subject line of the email so it can quickly be routed through to me, and include the order or customer number if you have it.
