My computer has no sound device detected

The computer could be having some problems with its driver which is responsible for making the system to communicate with its sound card. There are two ways that you can do to make it work. You can do a system restore (restoring the computer to known good date) and by downloading the updated sound driver which you can get from the website of your computer's manufacturer.

System Restore

1. Click on start or the pearl button>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore
2. A window will open up. Select the date when your computer was still working fine.
3. Follow the instructions that will appear on the screen and let it finish until it will tell you that the restoration is complete.

Note: System restore won't affect the files and documents that you have saved in your computer. But, it will remove the programs and updates which happened after the restoration date that you will be selecting. Updates and changes in the computer's programs sometimes are the reasons for some corruptions in the system.

Driver Update or Installation

Go to the website of your computer's manufacturer. Then, look for support and downloads. Select drivers or drivers and downloads. Put in the model of your computer and look for the sound driver. Install it.

If you still have some problems right after doing the above mentioned steps, then message me. Just post your message here.

Thank you for using fixya.com.

My acer 563OZ laptop sound is not working. What

Hi, we are going to try to “Fix” this problem. Follow these instructions carefully. First, go to the “Control Panel” select and open. “Next, click to open the “Device Manager, or Hardware & Sound.” Select, “view, or update” Drivers. Click on to open the Disk Drive icon. In the Device Status, check to see if, “working properly” If so do the following; Click on the Driver button,” once the window open “check (two) areas. Rollback Driver, “if this area is not “Grayed-out; rollback drivers, “Apply, and click “OK.” Restart the computer.” The second area is the “Update Driver,” Click to update! Apply and click OK. Final step is to “restart the computer.” Important sometimes the ‘Drivers” can be “inactive mode” not disabled, nor recognized), just not functioning correctly. In a final attempt to get, the drivers up and running, take these steps: Click on the “Update Drivers” choose (“Browse my computer for driver software”), select to open. Next, select: (“Let me pick from a list…”) ‘once the next ‘window appear, click to highlight” the Driver, and click the Next (tab), follow all instructions thereafter; restart the computer. “Did this solution help? My motherboard is mercury with an inbuilt soundcard. the soundcard is not working

Do you know for sure your speakers are working? Or is Windows saying there's no sound device? Does the Device Manager tree show any problems (! symbol) by sound hardware entries? Has the integrated sound been disabled in the BIOS settings?

Try downloading the sound drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website and reinstall. This often solves the problem.

If the integrated sound has failed, install a PCI sound card if there is an open slot on the board. Or you can also purchase a USB external sound card and plug it into an open USB port, and you don't even need to open the computer. Just be sure to disable the integrated sound in the motherboard BIOS setup.

Thanks for using Fixya! Hope your computer is talking again soon.

REALTEK LOST MY WINDOWS SOUNDS

Hi,
Reinstall the newest Realtek drivers. These are the sound drivers for the sound card and you shouldn't have uninstalled them.

Alternatively, on rebooting the computer, you can press F8 and enter the BIOS and use the arrow buttons to navigate to the sound settings for the motherboard and change the motherboard sound output from PCI (sound card) to OS (onboard sound). This will mean you have to plug your speakers into the other set of audio holes inthe back of the computer and the sound will come straight from the motherboard.
Most people prefer to use the sound card though, as it is far superior, especially when using the latest Realtek or Creative drivers installed. (don't you use a creative driver... you have a RealTek card!)
So reinstall the Realtek Hd Audio driver and don't mess with it anymore :)

Good Luck!

Chris (ziraffa)

PS Did you try playing a song and trying the different audio ports on your computer? Or checking the Volume Control to check that nothing is muted or turned down?
