Try holding down the power button while the system is off and wait for two consectutive beeps. let go and try rebooting in safe mode while performing the Restore Default settings. You wont lose any data but you will have to change all your settings back (i.e sound, display, background). That might bypass the problem or try updating to the new update that was released last week.

I have the same problem as mark&michelle..PS3 says cannot start.Correct hard disk not found.Changed hard drive,same thing..No external sata.No warranty.Need help.Please.Thanks

Ok try these steps, hopefully it will sort it but if it doesn't reply here and I will assist you some more.
Step 1. Turn the PS3 into standby mode (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button, it will beep as soon as you press it, beep again 5 seconds later then beep once more and turn off. Release the power button.
Step 3. Again press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it, then 5 seconds later, then it will do 2 quick beeps together. Let go of the power button when you hear these 2 quick beeps.
Step 4. The PS3 will ask you to connect a controller using a USB cable and press the PS button. Do this and a menu will appear.
Step 5. Select option 3 of the menu, "Restore File System"
Step 6. The PS3 will say "Preparing..Please Wait" and then restart. Let it do its thing, you may see a message about corrupt data on the hard drive, just agree and continue with what it was doing. You may lose save game data, it really is hit and miss with this method.

Hopefully when the hard drive file system has been restored you should have a fully working PS3 again but if you don't, post here and I will try and assist you some more.

Thank you for using FixYa

Hi there..

Please follow these steps to get your console out of the HDD corrupt mode.

NOTE THAT BY DOING THE FOLLOWING ALL OF YOUR DATA ON YOUR PS3 WILL BE LOST, YOUR ONLINE STATS ARE ON THE NETWORK SO YOU WILL GET THAT STUFF BACK, INCLUDING GAMES AND ADD-ONS YOU BOUGHT FROM THE PSN.-

1.Put your PS3 in Standby Mode.

2.you should know your model number. It can be found on the back panel of the PS3 on the serial number label, and it will begin with CECH. Example - Serial: XXXXXXXXXXXX-CECHXXX-

3.For models: CECHA01, BO1, E01, E01MG, G01, H01, H01MG, K01, LO1, AND P01, it will have a power switch on the back. Flip it off then back on and you will have a solid red indicator light on the front.

4.For models: CECH-2001A and 2001B, press the power button on the front until the indicator light turns red. If all else fails unplug the power cord and plug it back in.

5.Press and hold your finger over the power button on the front until you hear three beeps and the indicator light goes back to red. Then release the button. (The second you touch it you will hear a beep, that's the first beep. Five seconds later a second beep, another five seconds the third and final beep will sound then the indicator light will return to red.)

6.Press and hold your finger over the power button again until you hear a quick double beep. The release the button. (The second you touch it you will hear a beep, that's the first beep. Five seconds later a second beep, another five seconds you will hear the double beep.)

7.Connect controller to PS3,then you will see a screen that says "Connect the controller with the USB cable, then press the PS button"

8.Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the front of your PS3 and the top of your game controller, (between the left and right bumpers). Then Press the PS button in the center of the controller.

9.you will see a list of options on your screen, select option 5 (Restore PS3 System). Then select yes to perform step. You will then see a screen that says, "The hard disk's file system is corrupt and will be restored."

10.The PS3 will then restart. You will see many different languages, all that it is saying is, "Connect the controller with the USB cable, then press the PS button". Press the PS button and set your settings when it finishes it will start up and its fixed!

Guys ive only just got my ps3 and now it keeps comming up i need to restore my ps3 because its corrupt.... once i restore it, it comes up again with the restore screen? any help would be greatful as ive...

Hello,

the corruption is from your HDD and yes, you might need to replace the HDD. But before you replace the HDD, you can try the steps below as it should help to solve your problem, but if it does not, you will have no choice than to replace the HDD. Follow the procedures below:

Put your PS3 in Standby Mode. The first thing your going to want to know is your model number. It can be found on the back panel of the PS3 on the serial number label, and it will begin with CECH. Example - Serial: XXXXXXXXXXXX-CECHXXX -

For models: CECHA01, BO1, E01, E01MG, G01, H01, H01MG, K01, LO1, AND P01, it will have a power switch on the back. Flip it off then back on and you will have a solid red indicator light on the front.

For models: CECH-2001A and 2001B, press the power button on the front until the indicator light turns red. If all else fails unplug the power cord and plug it back

Time to enter Safe Mode. Press and hold your finger over the power button on the front until you hear three beeps and the indicator light goes back to red. Then release the button. (The second you touch it you will hear a beep, that's the first beep. Five seconds later a second beep, another five seconds the third and final beep will sound then the indicator light will return to red.)

Press and hold your finger over the power button again until you hear a quick double beep. The release the button. (The second you touch it you will hear a beep, that's the first beep. Five seconds later a second beep, another five seconds you will hear the double beep.)

You will then see this screen. "Connect the controller with the USB cable, then press the PS button".

Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the front of your PS3 and the top of your game controller, (between the left and right bumpers). Then Press the PS button in the center of the controller.

You will then see this screen. -REMINDER: -BY DOING THE FOLLOWING ALL OF YOUR DATA ON YOUR PS3 WILL BE LOST, YOUR ONLINE STATS ARE ON THE NETWORK SO YOU WILL GET THAT STUFF BACK, INCLUDING GAMES AND ADDONS YOU BOUGHT FROM THE PSN.-

Select option number 5. (Restore PS3 System). Then select yes to perform step. You will then see this screen. "The hard disk's file system is corrupt and will be restored.

The PS3 will then restart. You will see many different languages, all that is is saying is, "Connect the controller with the USB cable, then press the PS button". Press the PS button and set your settings when it finishes it will start up and its fixed!

Good luck.

Ps3 initial screen says hard drive file system is corrupted and then goes through a restore. when it gets to100% it shows the start screen and then displays same corruption message again

Sounds like power must have failed while the update was writing to the PS3 harddrive. You might be able to fix this problem by booting the PS3 into safemode. Here's the steps to do that:

Step 1: Turn off the PlayStation 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.

Step 2:
  1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PlayStation 3 is powering on.
  2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
  3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).
Step 3:
  1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PlayStation 3 to power on.
  2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
  3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."
Connect a USB cable to the controller and the PlayStation 3 and press the PS button to enter Safe Mode.
  • Then you will see the Safe Mode menu.

  • This last step can possibly erase the data you have stored on your harddrive, so I recommend the options in this order...if one of them works stop and don't try the others, that way you may be able to retain your data.
    1. Restore Default Settings
    2. Restore File System
    3. Rebuild Database
    4. Restore PS3 System

Brand New PS3 claims insufficiant space.

There is a similar problem with other games, such as Ratchet and Clank. The fix for these have been to install and/or unistall something of about the same size (A demo from PSN works pretty well). Hopefully this works for the issue you have with Prototype.
