When I first bought my Dyson it picked up like a dream. After a the first year it stopped picking up heavier dirt only fine particles. I would have to use the hose attachment to pick up heavier dirt. Very inconvenient...I thought these machines were never supposed to lose suction. This sucks!!!

I have the same problem. The only reason I spent the money that I did on the dyson was because it claims to NEVER lose suction. I checked for blockages and found nothing. Mine started around the same time, just after the one year mark.

Make sure the filters in the bottom are clean, then remove the canister and you will need to clean it thouroughly, pay close attention to the upper section inside where the "cones" come togetheri have read that they are prone to clog up here and lose suction, google dyson suction loss or how to clean a dyson attention to getting the rod that releases the bottom to dump back in the correct place or it will not work right. a few write ups tell about this!

Loss of suction in hose

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. If there doesn't seem to be as much suction as usual through the hose, there may be a blockage in the wand or hose. You may also need to give the filters a wash.

To locate and remove any blockages in your machine, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

In normal use, the filters need to be washed at least once a month, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry somewhere warm before replacing them.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing a problem with your DC07. From what you've described, it sounds like you may have a blockage somewhere in the machine. We would also recommend washing the filter - this should be done every 3-6 months.

You may find the Support section of our website helpful in showing you how to wash the filter, and how to locate and remove any blockages from the system:

If you've followed these steps and are still experiencing difficulties, please get in touch with us free, on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can run through some checks over the phone.

My dyson vacuum cleaner doesn't seem to have the same suction power it used to. I have cleaned out the canister and have taken apart the vacuum head (for cleaning carpets) and it doesn't seem to be...

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most of the time the reason why the vacuum is not picking up is due to loss of suction. You may need to check for blockages of your wand and hose. Remove the wand and hose from your cleaner when checking for blockages and any damages. Make sure to turn off and unplug your vacuum from the power before doing this.

Hi loss of suction on Dyson DC07 and I have changed the belt on the brushbar and cleaned all filters/removeable parts but still suction not very good, any other suggestions?

Check for a clog where the power nozzle connects to the hose. Clogs or leaks in the hose will both cause loss of suction/air flow. Another possibility is broken or worn out fan blades.

Dyson hose does not produce alot of suction when extended.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. with the machine locked in the upright positino, remove the hose from the machine, switch on and test the suction. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If the suction is strong, you will need to check the wand for a blockage. If the suction is still poor, check the hose for a blockage.

You may find it useful to wash the filter as this can sometimes cause a drop in performance if its dirty and it wuold be more noticable from the hose.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards
Dyson Customer Service
