Is the chain brake "on"?, can you pull the chain around the bar?

Is the drive sprocket teeth worn all the way through.
Does the engine high rev or is it loaded when you throtle up?

Motor turns but chain does not rotate

Ok, so if the clutch is turning and everything with the engine is functioning properly, then it can only be the chain or the chainsaw sprocket. Have you replaced the chain just recently? I'm only asking because even though it may be the right length, there are chains that have different sized drive links. Very seldom do the sprockets wear, but I have seen alot of times where someone buys a new chain and the drive links are either too big to sit properly into the sprocket or they're too small...

Obviously your chain brake is off correct?....

Mcculloch MS 1415 electric chain saw throws chains

I had a saw that did that and found my blade the chain runs in was bent. Another problem was the groove the chain goes in had a gouge that did not look like much but was just enough to throw the chain. Also check the drive sprocket and make sure it lines up with the groove in the blade the chain runs in.I replaced the blade and its ok now.

With chainsaws once you refit teh chain to the sprocket (it runs one way only) and the guides are sitting in the groove in the bar. The bar needs to be pushed so there is very little flex in the chain and then the nuts that hold the bar on should be tightened. If the chain is loose it will not get driven properly and it will jump off the bar. Also if oil is not lubricating the chain it will heat up quickly, stretch and jump off the bar. If in doubt - take it to your local chainsaw mechanic for checking and a demonstration.

If your chain has recently jumped off the bar while running, your chain may have "burs" on the drive links (part of the chain that rides in the bar groove). These burs will make the chain rub the inside of the rails and thus bind the chain in the groove. You can file these off with a flat file if there aren't very many, but you may need to just replace the chain. You can find files, bars, chains & sprockets for your saw at PartsBuggy.com.

Start procedure for chainsaw ncr 4550

The header says that this is an electric saw which doesn't have a start procedure--just push the button and it runs. Electrics also don't have a clutch because the motor doesn't need to continue running when not cutting like a fueled engine does. Most electrics, however, have a safety device that uncouples the chain drive sprocket from the drive shaft to protect the gearbox. Remove the bar and chain, then look for a broken/disconnected drive link or spring connected with the sprocket. If the shaft itself does not turn, then there is likely problems in the gearbox. Hope this helps!

My electric chainsaw used to carve ice, chain stops while motor still spins when cutting ice

Is there some form of tensioner for the chain or do you believe it's the drive sprocket?Gas chainsaws have a bolt you can tighten which takes up the play in the chain. The drive sprocket is either on a key-way or clutch.I would remove the chain and check the drive sprocket. There must be a clutch to allow the motor to free spin until a given RPM would drive the chain. That clutch is suspect. You didn't give any information(make or model of chainsaw)that I could use to search for an answer for you.Try to work on that clutch,re-post if you need more help.

Motor runs but chain does not move?

Check the chain drive sprocket to see if it moves when the motor runs. If not, there may be a sheared key between the shaft and sprocket or the teeth on the sprocket are badly worn off. Hope this helps!

My ryobi chainsaw rcs 2040 keeps stopping but motor is still running, chain not moving!

RYOBI----- with the motor running at high revs the chain stops indicates that the sprocket behind the centrifugal clutch is worn out or the centrifugal clutch itself ,or the clutch shoes are worn out the way to tell is to remove the bar and chain and have alook where the chain was conected to the saw, i think you will see the sprocket is buggered and as that is attatched to the clutch drum that will have to be replaced along with clutch springs and shoes, i think you have been running the chain a bit too loose or not running it at realy high revs ,which is what they are designed to do ,cme back to me if you feel the need

My problem is how to remove the petrol chain saw drive sprocket from the drive shaft

There are a couple different ways. They make a special plug that goes into the cylinder to stop the rotation so you can loosen the sprocket or I have used an impact wrench to remove the nut. If you give me the brand and model I will look and see what I can do more to help you
