Remove the bottom panel on back of fridge. locate the compressor( round black object with copper tubing coming out of it. check where the wiring plugs into it and you will probably see a white plastic box attached to the compressor.this part can be pried off with a screwdriver and if it is white this is your problem. whirlpool had a defect in this relay and they go out quite frequently

The freezer is cold but why is the refrigerator warm?

Likely, either your circulation fan has stopped working due to icing, or you have ice buildup in the cold air duct between the freezer and refrigerator. Try unplugging your refrigerator overnight with the doors open, mop up any melt water with towels, then plug the refrigerator back in next day. Listen for the circulation fan in the freezer and, if it is not working or not moving air, replace the circulation fan.

Kenmore refrigerator stop cooling but fan working

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Freezer works refrigerator warm

Sounds like the FF(freezer fan) is wearing out this fan supplies the circulation for both the freezer and the refrigerator, when this fan motor starts to wear out it does not produce enough force to circulate air thru the freezer and refrigerator causing the area around the fan to ice up. The immediate solution is to unplug the unit for around four hours or use a portable hair dryer to melt the ice around the fan, but be very careful not to melt the plastic. That is why it is better to let the ice melt on its own by unplugging the unit. The minimum cost to repair/replace this fan assemble is around $300.00

Fridge and freezer not getting cold

  • You have 2 fans Make sure your top fan is working ,its located inside the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked. With out a fan you have no circulation .Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open 12 to 24 hrs this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

Frigidaire Side by Side model........freezer not working

There is most always an adjustment that diverts part of the cooled air into the refrigerator and a fan to ensure that the air circulates.
This adjustment is generally limited so that the freezer gets the lion's share of cooling.
It sounds as if the circulating fan has failed, or, (very unlikely) the path between the two is somehow blocked.

Kitchenaid refrigerator w/bottom freezer french doors

please check the air flow to the refrigerator side. it could be a stuck damper motor or damper thermostat. if the fan inside the freezer is running, you should be able to feel cold air coming out off the vents in the refrigerator side. you might have to press the button light switch on the panels to run the fan.

Bottom Freezer working but not side!

Typically the freezer air is circulated into the frige area to provide cooling. If the circ. fan is not working or the air ducts/channels/dampers are blocked with ice, food, etc. then no cool air will get from the freezer to the frige area. Check all the air channels and to see if the dampers are open along with the circulation fan running. The diagrams at the following link should help you see inside better. If your lower circulation fan is running then you likely have an air return/supply channel blocked with ice and will require an old style defrost (unplug unit and leave doors open for 24 hours to melt ice, etc.). If the fan isn't running then that needs to be replaced. Air channels can freeze up if a door is left open slightly overnight or other moisture enters the freezer/frige. http://www.partselect.com/MultiModels.aspx?ModelNum=ER6AHKXPQ&searchTerm=&RefineSearch=0
