Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 PC Notebook

1 Answer

Have Dell Inspiron 9300: bought replacement keyboard to install. Does not have the clip on the end of the plastic strip that goes into the keyboard. Does anyone know how to get the old clip to work with the new keyboard strip? It seems fragile and I don't want to break it. But I cannot replace the keyboard without the proper connection (obviously). Any help is most appreciated. Thank you! Kurt

I broke the plastic clip on the MOBO that secures the keyboard connector

Jason Hunter,

Unfortunately, you would need to replace the motherboard. There is no specific part number for the plastic clip. You can contact the Dell Spare Parts Department at 1-877-717-3355 or visite the website link below.

Dell Inspiron 9300 Vertical lines

Try re-seating and cleaning, the connection between the display and the Motherboard, (Electronics cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, be sure not to leave any of the cotton fuzz on the connectors.) It will be below the keyboard. If that doesn't result in any improvement, the display will probably need replacing. You can find the complete tear-down guide here:

Sounds like bad Keyboard, about $20 on EBay. If that doesn't resolve, then it will be a motherboard.

Stuck keys

You don't have to buy a whole new keyboard to replace few keys. Try taking off the key cap and its retainer clips (plastic pieces underneath the key cap). Repair it yourself with the help of this video:

Numerous, bright, multi-colored vertical lines on 9300 screen

Try taking out the Ram memory first one stick at a time. Sometimes when Ram goes bad or overheats, it first affects the display. If that is not the issue, here is the link to your service manual.

Keyboard will not accept characters. Goes thunk.

Try using an external keyboard in order to get the machine up and running. Then do a system restore to a point where you know the keyboard was functioning correctly. If that doesn't work then try uninstalling the keyboard drivers and do a hardware search. It will automatically pick up the keyboard and reinstall the drivers. If it still doesn't work, then the keyboard needs replacing.
