Our vacuum (a miele S718) has cut out.

When we try to start it up it shows the red warning light, and will not start. Is there a problem with the motor? Please could you tell us how to fix this. Thanks

Probably WAY too late to help you now, but may be of assistance to others (I repair appliances): Several times, I've had Miele Vacs which show the red light, but the motor never powers up. If the vac was working perfectly before, 98% it will be a bad solder joint on the Motor pcb. Although it varies per vac: Remove the bag & 4 screws around.
Unclip & remove lid (flex off pivots), then remove centre screw. Lift off control panel. Remove all other screws under the control panel area.
Lift out motor & unscrew motor pcb. Turn over & inspect for any black joints - repair as ness. Reassemble in reverse order - note: difficult to locate top cover back on if lid wasn't removed, as lid power connection can interfere. Hope this helps...

I just fixed exactly this problem on a Miele S718. The overheating warning came on and the motor didn't power up. The problem and the solution were exactly as described by bsc100 above. I also used this site to help me figure out how to dismantle the cleaner: http://www.sannerud.com/house/miele.html
Thanks, this saved me a good deal to repair the vacuum and all the hassle too.

    Hi

A big big thanks to bsc100 andhttp://www.sannerud.com/house/miele.html as I had this with an S556/Revolution 500. Great pictures helping to strip it down and a dry joint on the heat sink on the motor control board. Resoldered, heat sink draws the heat away which doesn't help, but got a good joint and now works again.

    Thanks all

I have a Silver Moon S558, when I turn it on the power light comes on and a few secords later the red warning light comes on. What is causing the vacuum not to work? One day I was vacuuming, turned it off and a few minutes later went to turn it on and nothing, but these lights turning on. Is there a fix?

Our miele red star(s314i) vacuum was running great and quit suddenly. It had not been running for a very long time and just quit. Newish bag, no clogs in hose and doesn't seem overly hot. the over heated...

Ok, so if the cord test didn't fix the problem, then it sounds like either the plug has gone bad, or the switch. The plug is a very common problem to go bad, and can be caused by just simply yanking the plug out of the wall, or putting too much tension on the cord while you're vacuuming. Here's a link showing how to replace a plug on your Miele. You may purchase a plug at a Home Depot for very cheap. If this doesn't fix your problem, then it is either going to be the entire cord reel assembly that's gone bad, or the switch. The plug is the easiest, cheapest next best option, so hopefully this is your problem. Here's a link on how to change the plug out;
http://electrical.about.com/od/diyprojectsmadeeasy/ss/replacecordplug.htm

Please just use the comment field again if this doesn't fix it, and I'll walk you through step by step the more detailed process of replacing the cord reel.

Miele SEB-213 powerbrush stopped working

Pull the head cover off to check the belt, if the belt is ok then it might be the power connection between the handle and the power head shaft. If the red light is on the power head, then its not the connection
because its getting power. Now some heads have a reset button on them, you could check this also.
With the cover off the power head, remove the belt, now turn it on, and be careful, but try to make the motor shaft spin, with one finger, because if it does start to spin you do not want to hurt your finger.

If the motor starts to spin, put the belt back on, if it does not spin again, the motor is too weak.
If it does not spin at all, the motor is bad.Hope this helps you,and you get it working.

S718 doesn't come up in the Meile parts list, there is a S518, some possibles to check: The switch part #04367102, Indictor lite w/pot. # 05482010, Reel cord 05240302, and motor electronic control # 05408620. Any one of these could be giving you the problem you describe. You will have to dive in and starting with the switch, and eliminate which ever parts seem ok. The reel cord could have bad internal contacts, I have had the pots go bad, but the electronic control more ofter. Which I could pin point it for you.

Stopped working - warning light on

There is an electronic circuit board on the motor that may have gone bad and will have to replaced, part # 06836740 and sells for around $75.00, for model S516. But if this a S316, then it could be the speed control mounted on the motor, Part # 04416342 and sells for around $83.00. Both of these models are Cat Naad Dog so you need the model number berfore you order a part.
