Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I am about to put my 6x9 speakers in my car. i would like a little advice if possible. it will not be a tricky job as all the connections have been done (by a car garage). all i need to do is put the speakers into some mdf wood and then fix that under my parcel shelf. Do you have any helpful information on what the best way to do this is, i.e. how to secure the mdf to the original parcel shelf. I want to put the speakers underneath the existing parcel shelf for added security. many thanks Harry

Typically the best way would be to remove the interior trim piece from the shelf. Then have a friend hold the MDF board up from inside the trunk. Then run either screws or bolts/nuts through from the interior all the way through the MDF. Replace interior trim piece and it should be held in tight.

Another less intrusive way would be to use a strong adhesive, such as "Liquid Nails" to secure the MDF to the bottom of the shelf. You'd need to figure a way to hold the MDF to the bottom of the shelf for quite awhile (8-24 hours) to make sure their is good adhesion.

pioneer gm 6500 is a 4 ch amp rated at 60w-4 way to small of an amp to run your sub. UNDER-POWERING your sub is more likely to damage spkr than over-powering. my advice, get mono-block to run sub

Will a 6x9 fit in where the stock 6x8 speaker is on a 1991 xlt

No, the 6x9 will not sit flush in the 6x8 opening.
It's possible to enlarge the cut out but rear clearance may be an issue. The 6x9 speaker is deeper and has a larger magnet.
Another choice is to move the speaker out with a spacer NLT 3/4", this may require cutting a hole in the plastic panel and using a speaker grill.

2001 EXPEDITON TRYING TO FIT 6X9 IN THE DOORS HOW CAN I MAKE THAT POSSIBLE WITH SAME DOOR PANELS

You can mount them on the inside of the door, a small bit of speaker may be a bit smaller than the opening but that way you can use the same door panel and you don't have to hog out the door at all. Shouldn't degrade the sound quality very much.

I need help on sound built in

u may be able to custom fir the 6x9 into the rear of the vehicle, if you don't want to do that, you may be able to fit them into the spots in the doors, but that still may be a custom job. u could always go with boxes, individual boxes that you could put on the floor on maybe on the back deck where usually the 6x9s would be located. if you dont like that idea, you might try a body shop or electronics retailer because there is definitely a way to fit those speakers in the doors or on the rear deck, it just won't be an easy job for a beginner, you have to cut holes

Any speaker will work. It's better if you put in the same kind, but if it's just a stock system it shouldn't matter.
