The PC link light is your indicator if there is a device connected to the modem through the ethernet port. If its off, then you may need to check the connection once again whether it be a PC connected hardwired to the modem or a router. Replacing the ethernet cable can also help because it might also be a defective ethernet cable. As long as the internet and cable activity lights are both solid, its ok because that means your modem is receiving the signal from your provider.
If the ONLY light not illuminated is your PC link light then that generally indicates a physical disconnect between the modem and the laptop. If you can get the PC link light to light up when connecting to any other device (computer, router, anything), then you are most likely looking at the ethernet jack on the laptop being burnt out. Otherwise, try swapping the ethernet cord. If a different ethernet cord does not resolve the issue and the PC link light does not come on no matter what the modem is plugged into, you are looking at a faulty ethernet jack on the modem.
Good day.You can do the following to make your connection work.
1. You need to make sure that the cable connection between your modem and wall outlet is tight. 2. Ethernet cable should be detected when plugged in to your pc ( usually a pop up on your screen will tell that) 3. Link light means there's a conenction between your pc and cable modem. 4. You might need to check if the online light or cable light on the modem is on to make sure that your modem is getting a signal from your cable internet provider. If its off you need to contact your internet provider because there could be an issue or possible outage on your line. 5. You can also try to restart your computer once its connected to the modem to refresh the ip address of your pc. 6 You can also contact the tech support number for your internet provider for them to diagnose the issue.
Hope this information will help resolve you're problem. Have a great day and thanks for using Fixya.
you may be suffering from mixed Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling. The wiring is slightly different and they don't work well when mixed in routers and modems etc. One or the other will work , but when they're mixed it'll do what you have going on here...
I would recommend wiring everything with cat 6 ethernet cabling. Look on your cable and you will find the labeling on the outer casing.
no matter what the model is, the thing has to work. it is not that ur new modem is smaller so it is not working . Check the suggestable router modems for AT&T . if ur modem is working fine , then install the modem drivers in your Pc.
FYI for those people trying to use a ethernet and usb cable from a cable modem - it may work for a while but it won't work forever - your ISP will only allow one IP address out of the modem unless you pay for additional addresses (then you need a switch). Each device you have on the modem is fighting for that IP and eventually it will just quit working (if it works at all).
If you want more than one computer on your network (on the Internet or sharing printers/files, etc) then you need a router or a gateway (cable modem/router combo which I DON'T recommend).
