Question about Toro Blowers Rake and Vac - Electric Blower/Vac - 51573

1 Answer

Mower I have a Gravely mower, an old one. It ran good in the spring and summer of 07 , but in the winter 07 to 08 it would not run. I have a snowblower attachment for it and wanted to use it. I had to shovel that winter. I took it to a small engine repair shop and had the carburetor adjusted and cleaned, new plug, battery, a whole tune up. In the spring and summer it ran good, but in the winter, 08-09, again it would not start. The starter turns, but won't turn over. I put in a new plug, clean gas. It has spark to the plug and is getting gas, still no start. I would like help, we are to get more snow and would really like to snow blow, rarher than shovel. John PS It would not take the name Gravely, so I put in Toro, it is a Gravely 5660, Model # KE301S

If it sat for some time without running aslittle as 30 day the fuel is probly stale and needs to be drained and the carb cleaned and possibly a new spark plug

My snowblower will start but stop after a few minute. I think it is the old gasoline. Is it the gasoline?

If you are using fuel that has been in the tank since last winter then it should certainly be drained and replaced - gasoline degrades with time.

Of course I can't be sure that is the problem but I would advise trying fresh fuel first.

How do you replace a drive cable on a toro recycler 6.5 hp.

Its a bit of a pain - but with ordinary tools, it can be done. Get the replacement cable first. You can see how the bottom spring wraps around the cable with a universal joint sort of arrangement. Remove the belt protector (three screws from the top deck; if you have a battery compartment, that will temporarily need to go. Release the old cable from the top and middle attachment points, then unhook the spring from the traction lever. You might need to destroy the old cable lock to the mower deck to remove the old cable. Remove the plastic cup next to the cable where it exits the mower deck. Replace parts in this order: New spring/cable to the traction lever, snap in plastic interface to mower deck, small plastic cup top cable attachment, then middle attachment. You might need to move the middle attachment after you give it a test run. Replace belt cover and battery compartment if necessary. A lot of steps but, except for a difficult fit to get the spring hooked up, nothing is really difficult. I paid about $30 for the replacement cable from a local dealer; Overpriced, but I wanted to get the job done today.

Which has the most advantage fall or spring tune-up of riding mower?

Spring, especially if you are doing it yourself and don't have to wait in line to get it into the local shop. If you do a lot of fall and winter tasks with your rider like haul wood or blow snow, then fall works, too. If not, then a fall tune up is wasted, as it will just sit there all winter gunking up (or not, if you have run it dry).
That's the news from Lake Woebegone:)

Toro personal pace mower 5 yrs old only runs 10-15 seconds.

Was gasoline left in the tank during off season? Sometimes gas will break down and clog the jets in the carb. The priming bypasses the carb so when you put fuel in by pumping the bulb it runs, but dies becasue no additional fuel is coming through the carb after the primed fuel is burned off. Sounds like you need to clean the jets in the carb and in the future, use Stabil in gasoline to keep it from breaking down.

Wont start

the problem is that your carbeurator is gummed from from sitting idle all winter with gas in it. Get an aerosol can of carbeurator cleaner, remove the air filter and give the air intake two squirts of carb. cleaner. Then start the mower. When it stalls again let it sit for an hour while the carbeurator cleaner works at dissolving some of that gum. Repeat the process until the mower runs again. Sometimes there is so much junk in the carb. that you have to remove it and soak it in cleaner for about three hours, and then rebuild the carb. with the proper little kit. hopefully you won't have to take this step.

Next fall let the mower run out of gas and stall then you won't have the gum in the carbeurator in the spring.

Engine keeps flooding out

Recommend completely draining the fuel system. Tank, lines, and carb. Make sure everything is clean and dry. Clean or replace fuel filter. Always try to store it with a full tank of fuel. It is common to get condensation when the weather goes from warm to cold and back.

Mower won't turn over

Keep it in the kitchen over night. Or anywhere that is environmentally controlled for that matter. Should start right up as soon as you get it outside.
