The upper cabinet works fine, the lower cabinets lights all work and you can change settings, but the start button doesn't work. Can you change the start button or do you have to change the whole panel?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
There are several reasons for the symptom you describe.
Before you do anything.... go to the main circuit breaker panel and turn off power by physically pushing the circuit breaker to OFF (resets breaker) and then back to on. Then test for heat.
NOTE: Anytime there unit internal drum cabinet is opened make sure power is OFF as failure to do so can be fatal.
- First as you just open or just close the fryer door listen for an audible micro-switch click. (No click and the door switch has failed)
- Next reach inside the dryer grab one of the 3 baffles and attempt to rotate the dryer drum. If it rotates with little resistance (as in your sure the motor is not also turning) then the drive belt has broken. (You would hear the motor running but the drum would not turn when pushing the start button)
- There is a thermistor that is a one time failure component that is item 13 of this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5174453
The thermistor opens when the internal temp reaches 210 deg and will terminate power to the unit. The thermistor fails as a result of poor air-flow. You must check ALL of the dryer ducting for signs of lint build up inside the cabinet and all the way though the outside wall. The though the wall flapper is often where the lint problems manifest. Also if the blower wheel Item 19 of the above link has failed it will result in poor air-flow and cause the thermistor to fail. The thermistor will read continuity at all times if it is good and open if it has been activated. IF THIS THERMISTOR FAILS THE UNIT WOULD NOT RESPOND to any user inputs.
- Make sure to wash the lint filter with vinegar and water, then soap and water before returning the unit to service. If you use dryer sheets the lint filter will appear clean but can be almost completely blocked,
- Pull out the lint filter then using a flash light inspect for lint in the bottom of the lint filter receptacle.
- The thermostat that is item 4 of this link: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5174453&diagram_id=28600840#d28600840 can cause it not to heat.
- The heater Item 5 of the above link can also cause it not to heat.
- The heater circuit also has a themistor Item 9 of the above link that will cause no heat.

(Make sure to test all thermal fuses, thermostats AND the heater for continuity)
The motor relay board and the motor start / run switch can cause this problem also. These are very rare failures.
Performing the above checks should isolate where the failure(s) have manifested.
