If you have a code to input then it will be one that you put in. If you cannot remember it or do not have it, then download the latest version of itunes from apple.com and plug your ipod into the computer. Then click on the ipod image on the left hand pane of the screen and when the ipod page opens choose to retore, this will take the ipod back to its original settings.

Unlock an iPod Model A1199
Although the second generation iPod Nano (also known as 2G) uses a four-digit pass code that prevents unauthorized access to your iPod by locking the screen, you can also unlock the device by plugging it into your computer's USB 2.0 port.

Plug the iPod Nano's cable into the docking port on the iPod Nano.

Unlock an iPod Nano Code
With the latest iPod Nano model, you can set a four-digit code and lock all intruders from accessing your iPod.
In order to use the device's functions again, you need to enter the correct code.
However, if you happen to lose or forget the code, you will need to find another way to unlock your iPod Nano.

Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of your iPod Nano.
Plug the other end of the USB cable into a free USB port on your Mac or PC computer.
Open the iTunes program by using the Dock on a Mac or the Start menu on a PC.
Select your iPod Nano from the "Devices" list in the main iTunes window.
Click on the "Sync" button to make a connection between your computer and your iPod Nano.
Click on the "Eject" symbol once the syncing process is complete.
Remove your iPod Nano from the USB cable.
The iPod's lock code will now be reset and you will be able to access all features again.
Navigate to the "Screen Lock" option in the iPod menu to lock your iPod's screen again.
Since your iPod's lock code was just reset, you will be prompted to select a new four-digit code.

How to unlock it

How to Unlock an Apple iTouch

Although locking your iPod Touch prevents accidental touch commands, the feature also prevents you from accessing your media and applications while the device is locked, according to the Apple site. The lock code is the 4-digit code that was created when the passcode lock was first enabled, and displays a passcode menu prompt on the iPod Touch's screen when the "Home" or "Power" button is pressed and the unlock bar is slid across the screen.

Instructions
1 Push the "Home" button on the iPod Touch's screen, or push the "Power" button on top of the device to show the home screen.
2 Slide your finger on the iPod Touch's unlock bar.
3 Enter the 4-digit passcode using the on-screen keypad to unlock the device. If you cannot remember the passcode, plug the dock-connector cable into the iPod Touch and plug the other end into your computer's USB port. According to Apple, the iPod Touch will automatically unlock after it is connected to your computer.

I found a ipod 8gb it already had a unlock code in it. i don't know the code what can i do

Normally if you don't know the unlock code it's because you forgot it, and you can simply connect the iPod to the first original computer that it synced with through iTunes, and it will unlock.

However, since you don't know the code because you found it, the only way to get past the unlock screen is to restore the iPod. This deletes all of the data on the iPod. So, if you are seeking to return the iPod to it's owner, you may not be able to as the owner information/address (provided there was any) may be deleted.

To restore it iPod, do the following:
1) Connect the iPod to your computer running iTunes with a sync cable
2) Click "Restore"
3) The iPod will reboot once it is successfully restored, allow it to reboot

In iTunes, notice at the left the icon of the iPod. If there was a backup made of this iPod prior to the restore, you may be able to right click that icon and choose "Restore from backup".
