Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
I was just wondering if someone could even do this... so the ps3 is broken and needs to be fixed... there's no doubt about that, but i just wanted to know if i could send it in and get it traded out for an upgraded system(i.e. a 40gb for an 80gb)
It needs a new laser because the old one is "burnt out". It's a really common problem with them.
You could replace the laser or the entire Bluray drive.
I buy my parts at http://parts.consolerepairguy.com - the laser are about $75 each and Bluray drives are about $95.
I run a repair business and that place has best prices aside from Hong Kong which I don't trust.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Tips for a great answer:
If you have this problem it is because the laser has shifted
from where it needs to be and the good news is that it is not that hard to fix
all you need is a good repair guide.
You can of course send it in but the disc reading issue you
should be able to fix in less than 1 hour from home.
