I would try another outlet or extension cord first. It could be the switch or cord or other possibilities but I would try different power first. Does this tool have a green light on the side to let you know it is plugged in? That would give you a start to troubleshoot. Let me know and I will dig deeper.

Don't rule out nothing. All it takes is it to run on a too small and/or too long extension cord. Also if you ran it on a generator that not keeping up the voltage. The good news is takes no time to check. First remove the bottom cover by removing the center plug with a allen wrench. Then the 4 screws on the outside of the plastic. Gently pry the cover off, it's tuff and you may need a screw driver. Now you have access to the brushes, remove them and check the wire connecting them, if it's discolor (should be bright silver) then you had a low power problem and they need replacement. While in here chech the end of the armature. Too get it out you must remove the brush holders. Just disconnect the wires and pull them out with needle nose plyers. The armature should be bright and without any cracks in the segments. You can clean it up a bit with sandpaper 180 grit or finer. When reassembling ensure you notice that the end piece off the casing has a v-notch in it that lines up with a notch in the bearing end plate. Next check the cord. Remove the on/off switch by gently poping it off with a screwdriver. Remove the screws under the switch. Then remove the the handle bolt that go side to side. Now you should be able to split the handle. With a meter do a continuity test form each pin of the plug with the wires at the connection point in the unit while moving the cord around. A short in the cord may only show when the cord is in a specific position. If this does not find the problem then you need to check accross the switch. Check continuity of the white wire in to the white wire out with a meter while the trigger is engaged and repeat with the black. Also check with the same meter white to black on both sides of the switch, you should have no continuity. This also goes for the cord. This should do it. If not let me know.

Sparks coming off brush

#1 Check your brushes & brush springs - you will have to remove the switch handle completely to access both brushes
#2 Visual of the armature - is it black / burnt or does it have raised segments?
Most likely it will need an armature if it has run for any length of time with bad brushes.
The armature comes out the front of the motor housing so you need to remove the gearcase to access it. Armature 2610003331 for Bosch Power Tool eReplacement Parts Carbon Brush Set

I bought a used Bosch 11236vs and would like to find a user's manual for it. Any suggestions? NS

I found a website where you can download the manual for the size of hammer you have.

Go to this page and look beneath the picture of the 1 1/8" hammer. If this is your size, click on documents tab, then on "manual." You should be able to download a .pdf document.

If you have a different size hammer, there are links below the box to locate your hammer. Here is the website:
I hope this helps, if it does, please enter a vote for me.

Bit will not lock into chuck. Ball inside chuck is stuck in "in" position, Bit slides all the way in and out w/o engaging the ball.

Open locking sleeve, clean the inside with a good "rust type cleaner" WD40 if you can't find anything else, let it sit overnight, I suggest doing this 2 or 3 times, leave tool with drill end facing down. Clean out with small round wire brush, lubricate with white grease.

Roto hammer works but leaks oil out the chuck

If you are getting leakage out the chuck end, the shaft seal needs replaced. You can get it done at a Bosch service center or get the seal and replace it yourself. Don't wait to long there is only a limited amount of lubricant in the tool.

My hammer drill won't hammer. larger corded model about 6years old. Used heavy about 3x per year.

when was the last time serviced?? If not recently then you would need to replace the o rings and look for other sticking/worn parts. Give me the exact model number and I will try and find you a breakdown and a rebuild kit. They are not that bad if you are handy with tools and take your time. Let me know

Hammer drill quit

If it is an 1199, forget it. Replace the brushes and do NOT use for hammering. It is a design problem. My unit was repaired 4 times and hammered about 5 holes each time before same failure.

I order parts for my Bosch tools at They have the parts lists also so it is easy to find what you need. Don't forget to order some bosch grease for your tool because you will need to carefully wash-out all the old grease with metal bits. Good luck with you repair. Enjoy
