Question about Epson RX620 All-In-One InkJet Photo Printer

RX620 Error Message

After replacing a couple of ink cartridges, I got an error message on the printer display, "Service Required, Parts insider your printer are at the end of their service life" and the printer was locked up. I went on-line to Epson.com and use the trouble shooting procedures which led me to call Technical Support. Technical Support was of no help, I got a foreign speaking woman who kept repeating for me to go to the WEB site www.epson.com/loyality, whic I tried but it did not appear to be on the internet. I then researched RX620 Printer problems and found one, which I tried. To clear the error message and reset the printer - Hold down the STOP and the B&W Start buttons while powering on the printer. This cleared the error message and reset the printer, I'm now back up and running

I just wanted to tell you that the suggestion of holding down the B&W StartButton and the Start Button, while powering up, cleared the stupid "parts in your printer have reached the end of their useful life message".

    THANKS THANKS THANKS !!!!

  • eileenalana Feb 13, 2008

Although my RX620 is working perfectly well - this message came up and I contacted Epson. They suggested I buy a new printer from them for £79.99. When I looked up the same printer it was on sale from Amazon for £49!!

Thanks to Georgy's solution, I am now using my trusty RX620 without any error message. Thanks a lot.

This reset worked for me. I suppose it was just a counter by the now infamous Epson Ink cartridge team as a way to force people into buying more product or services. Luckily for me the service center is 1,500 miles away so I did a little digging with Google. I am not happy at all with Epson and do not plan on buying another product from them. They are an ink company not a printer company.

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2008

Just a quick note to say the cancel b&w & start up buttons sequence worked for me too. Thanks for info.

I had exactly the same problem 12 months ago and got told by Epson to take it too my local repair center where I was charged £60 for a "service" Have have just had the same message on my printer today and tried your fix, the printer now works perfectly - thanks very much for saving me 60 quid!

Does anybody know roughly when the waste ink pads will actually need replacing based on the fact that this service message has now appeared twice only 12 months apart.

I have the same printer and the same problem, however holding down the Start & B /W buttoms does not fix the problem. I different error message shows up. Any ideas?

  • cleverbuggr Jun 29, 2008

Thanks to georgy's that my exactly the same problem existed and is now reset OK. I could not help but notice however that someone a little further down the page did not carry out the proceedure as instructed and instead of pressing together (simultaneously)-STOP and B&W pressed START and B&W henceforth it did not do what Georgy instructed. I hope all of you don't mind me noticing the error. Sincere Thanks ( the good advice saved me money no question about that!!!) **** the oil firing tech.

ok I have the same problem. The ink pad needs replacing. No one seems to know how to do this. I am confident with the right instructions i could do this myself. I have not even had this printer 2 and a 1/2 years when this message occured. I know I can reset the counter however I would like to know how to replace the ink pad. If anyone has instruction that would be so great! Thanks for all the other great info.

This message comes up after about 40000 registers on a use counter. I posted what I did on the Epson RX620 forum. Look it up. Basically I bought a repair manual on the net for about $10.00 I used this to take the RX620 apart down to the waste ink catch pads which I removed cleaned dried and replaced. It was a long job the first time and you need the manual in order to figure out how to do it. My pads were only about 1/3 used but I live in a dry climate. So punch those override buttons and keep going. You might put a plastic sheet or pan under the printer to catch the waste ink when it actually does leak out.

Has anyone tried simply opening the small 'hatch' held by a single screw found on the back, cartridge side, of the RX620? Through here you can see the corner of the ink pad tray - why not press some blotting paper onto this to absorb the excess waste ink before resetting the counter?

Or am I missing something?!

you guys are great!!! tried all of the above, and especially the toggling advice, now printer seems back to normal, I also sprayed compressed air all over before restarting, printer, a bit messy but finally the error message is gone...to bad I had just bought a new HP printer thinking this one had died on me...all in all it seems resetting has cost me a full batch of ink cartridges, but if it keeps the printer going so be it!!! Thanks from Milano, Italy, Filippo acquafil@mac.com

I had the same problem yesterday, and I found someone's idea. First, turn off the printer, and hold down 4 buttons at the same time - 'Power,"  'Stop', 'B&W' and 'Colour' buttons . This reset the printer. Now I am trying to clean ink pad my self - will keep posted when I find out how to.

The message is, printer error see your documentation and call service if necessary. The Epson tech group seems to have no solution. Every thing on this PHOTO RX500 is ok.

Brought c5180 two 1/2 years ago. starting using product 8 months ago, printed maybe 500 pages. replace ink when needed. now printer say i need to replace cyan ink which i did twice. brought it in for...

Complete the steps below in the order presented to resolve the problem. It might not be necessary to complete all of the steps.
NOTE: The printer will not operate unless all six ink cartridges are installed. Also, HP cannot guarantee the quality of refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges. Step one: Reset the printer CAUTION: Do NOT perform any other type of reset on the printer before the ink initialization process has been completed.
  1. Without turning the power off, remove the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall socket.
  2. Wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cord to the printer and to the wall socket. Turn the unit on if it is not already turned on.
  3. Check the printer for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to the next step.
Step two: Clean the cartridge contacts
  1. Lift the top cover. Figure 1: Lifting the top cover c00372271.gif
  2. Locate the ink cartridge indicated in the error message. Squeeze the gray tab below the cartridge slot to release the latch and then lift the latch. Figure 2: Unlatching the cartridge c00372272.gif 1 - Black cartridge 2 - Color cartridges
  3. Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message. Figure 3: Removing the cartridge c00372273.gif
  4. Gather the following cleaning materials:
    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water. Do not use tap water, alcohol, or platen cleaners.
    • Lint-free cloth or swab. Eyeglass wipes and coffee filters work well.
  5. Lightly moisten the swab or cloth and squeeze out the excess moisture.
  6. Holding the cartridge by its handle, wipe the copper contacts. Figure 4: Wiping the contacts c00372274.gif 1 - Copper contacts
  7. Replace the cartridge and then close the latch and the printer top cover.
  8. Check the printer for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to the next step.
NOTE: The printer may take up to 15 seconds to clear the error and recognize the cartridge after closing the cover.
Step three: Replace the cartridge If the error message still displays, replace the indicated cartridge with a new cartridge.
Or Please let me know what is the exact error message you are getting.
