Forgive me if this seems too simple, but there is a circuit breaker button on the back of the unit. Did you press that button back in to make sure that there was not a surge or something that could have knocked it out?
Good luck!

Battery does not get charged fully... and does not support load of computer in backup mode...

hello,

If the battery backup unit is over 2.5 years old then you will need to replace the battery. Go to your local electronics parts house or battery distributor. They will have the gel cell battery you need in stock. These units are just like small car batteries, after a few years of use they will break down and not hold a full charge. When this starts to happen the battery life is about to be over, it will hold less and less charge until one day no power at all and then the UPS will not power on. The UPS have a monitor circuit that will prevent them from powering up with a dead or missing battery. The replacement battery should run less than $20.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

House power fluctuates, UPS and computer die.

Sounds like the internal battery of the UPS needs replacement. Contact APC and ask for a qoute for a replacement battery/service. It'll probably work out a cheaper to buy new.

Make sure you dispose of the old unit properly if you do replace

Use of computer ups for lighting purpose

Hi,

To your concern of using a computer type UPS to power other devices:
  • If the light is incandescent type, yes;
  • If the light is florescent type, depends on the design. Some yes, some no. If the ballast is electronic, yes; if the ballast is inductive, no;
  • on the fan, no.
To my knowledge, most low-end commercial UPS produces a square wave. Only high end (expensive) models produces true Sine wave.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
