Error E1600 - please help!

After taking a few photos in short sucession, the screen flashed E1600 (i think, somthing like that) and when I turned the camera off the lens wouldn't shut and the zoom part (sorry, i am not technical at all!) wouldn't turn off - and is still sticking out now. I tried to turn it on and off as is said across the screen, but it hasn't worked. Any ideas?

The lens drive has failed for any one of many reasons- nothing for you to do here except to get onto Sony customer support Be warned however - the likely cost of repair will be near the price of replacing it.

Sony a200 Flash pops up then flashes as if its shorting and I am unable to take any photos.

Are you shooting in low light? Sometimes the flash will fire multiple short bursts to aid in focusing. If the camera is not in focus, then depending upon your setting it will not fire.

Hey Lackster,
Error 5 is a problem with the flash. Long story short it thinks there is an external flash attached even though the mechanical pop-up still works. It is repairable.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you.

I'm getting a 'built in memory full' message even though all photos have been deleted off the camera. Why? I can't take photos now and I very much need to.

Good day,

It sound like you need to format the internal memory of you camera.
Here is how to do so:

  1. Make sure all the photos that you want are already stored on your computer.
  2. Remove the SD Card.
  3. In the Setup Menu locate Format. (I think it is third to last in the menu screen if you scroll down)
  4. Select YES and follow the instructions.
  5. The format might take a few minutes.
  6. When the format is completed try and take some photos to see if the error has been fixed.

Please let me know if this information was helpful!

Kind Regards

When i view my photos on my camera they come up with 'read error'

Sounds like the card is failing - try recovering the images with a free software package - Google will find you lots - then Format or discard the card. Format in the camera - NEVER format using a computer

Blue screen access error when viewing or taking pics or vids

Please try to take as many pictures from memory stick as you can then format memory stick through format option in setup.
Hope this will resolve this blue access issue.
You can use another memory stick like 1GB in this camera.

Can't take photographs when flash is on

The powershot s5 IS does in fact have some strange behaviour issues especially on the first rev firmware. For example if you take 15-20 flash photos consecutively without powering down your camera the flash recycle times will increase to about 15sec, so you'll have to wait about 15sec before you can take another flash photo. The work around is to power down the camera and then turn it back ON. Another strange behaviour is manifested by its inability to lock focus after taking a "no-flash" photo, then popping up the flash and trying to take a flash photo. Again the work-around is to power down the camera, pop-up the flash and then power it back up. Confirmed these behaviours in two other cameras of the same model.
