Yes, the board would physically fit in the 5000 series case. In fact, any micro-ATX form factor board would fit. But you will need a new power supply as well. Motherboards used in those computers did not need the 4-pin power cable required on new boards. You should also consider cooling if you are building a high-performance system. The 5000 series case doesn't offer much room for adding cooling fans - only one place on the rear panel. But they are nice cases. I've built several systems in them.

Replacement motherboard

The Aspire x1800 motherboard is Micro-ATX, so you will be able to replace it with a Micro-ATX motherboard compatible with your lga 775 cpu and ddr2 ram. Here's an example relitively inexpensive motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157359 .
Also make sure you use thermal paste (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186020) when reapplying your cpu cooler. Here is a short article describing how to do that: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/howto_install_cpu_and_apply_thermal_paste

I want to upgrade the PCI Graphics card for my (Phoenix Bios D888)U8668-DD motherboard. What are the latest graphics cards I can get for it?

Hi there! You can only use PCI graphics on your motherboard, so the best card you can get is a GeForce 8400 by NVIDIA. Jaton makes an excellent card with 1GB of VRAM - it's $194. Here is a link to the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139047 It is one of the few PCI cards you can get with that much VRAM. You could also look at a GeForce 6200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139037 Or a Radeon HD 4350 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129156 Best of luck! First, you will not be able to upgrade the video card on your laptop, since video cards for laptops are specifically designed to fit onto the motherboard and the design of the laptops body.

Secondly, sound cards as well are also deisgined that way, some sound cards on laptops are built in to the mother board and higher end sound card for laptops are specifically designed to fit onto the motherboard and the laptop's body.

Hard Drives on the other hand can be upgraded to a higher capacity but you can't add an additional Hard Drive. I have checked the specs of your laptop has 80GB IDE. You can upgrade to 120GB IDE or higher if you like. Just make sure that you purchase a 2.5" HDD (5400RPM/7200RPM speeds).

Here are examples of Hard drivers that you need for upgrade. I checked newegg.com for available laptop hard drive. You can check other online stores or other computer shops near you if you as well.

**Since you have installed Windows Vista, I suggest that you upgrade the RAM (Memory) on the laptop for smooth performance for Windows Vista. The maximum memory on your laptop is 2GB DDR SDRAM. Buyin RAM for laptops are a little but tricky so you can just go to the link below for specific memory upgrade for your laptop (I suggest that you purchase 2 pcs of 1GB since your system can accomodate up to 2GB).

Link for RAM (Memory) :

**If you decied to upgrade the Hard Drive, you can still use you old Hard Drive as an USB external Hard drive for storage purposes. You will just have to purchase a 2.5" External Hard Drive Enclosure. Click on the link below for the example of the product :

**If you can't click on the links, just copy the link and paste it to your's browser's address bar.
