Sounds like one of two problems

1) Convergence chips are shorted....One quick test is to desolder and remove both STK392 chips....then power the set on. If the tubes light up the chips were shorted. You can get new ones from www.TvRepairKits.com

2) Another possible problem is a bad HVG - AKA the flyback.

Try the convergence chip test first. Note: On some Philips sets you can just unplug cable "1516" instead of removing the chips.

For instructions on how to find/remove cable 1516 visit the website listed above and click on their tips page. On that page click on the "Magnavox DPTV3xxx Checks" link.

Hi Mark,

First of all thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.

You've mentioned that you can hear a slight grinding noise. This noise came from either a faulty color wheel or fans. To isolate where the fault came from, first I would advice you to access the "error code operational check". This is a built-in software that log and give an equivalent error code by means of blinking LED to determine the exact caused of the symptoms.
How to access the "Error Code Operational Check".
1. Turn on the TV and wait until it automatically shutsdown.
2. Pressing the front panel "Input" and "Menu" buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds, activates the Error Code Mode. The Timer LED flashses denoting a two digit Error Code.Example, if the error code is "42" the led will flash 4 times pause and flash 2 times and it will cycle for a total of 5 times.
Please let me know what is the error code.
If you can't access the error code mode because the TV didn't gone to shutdown. I would advice you to open the rear panel of the TV to pinpoint where the grinding noise came from.

12_19_2011_11_46_04_pm.jpg
1. Remove 8 screws (A) from the external input frame.
2. Remove 10 screws (B) form the rear cover.
3. Pull the rear cover from the TV.

12_19_2011_11_49_27_pm.jpg
Tape the lamp cover switch to closed position like on the picture above or else the unit will not turn on.

Your TV has a 3 fans :
1. DMD fan
2. Lamp fan
3. chassis fan

If the grinding noise came from the fan(s) you have to replaced it. All fans have the same part no. 299P312010
However if the noise came from the optical engine assembly, you have to replaced it part no.938P059050

No picture or sound mitsubishi 62525

Capacitor failure is the most likely scenario the FMT ans Signal PWB would cause the picture interference and the power pwb would cause the lamp light to turn red and give a 34 code when the device/ input and menu buttons are pressed in together and held for five seconds. That chassis has issues with every board in the chassis having failed capacitors you can get repair kits for the V26 chassis at the follwing link that come with instructions. Your model is the V26 chassis. Heres the link.

Error Code 5 flashes when unit shuts down

Good Day;
It sounds like the TV may have a shorted CRT, picture tube, but let's trouble shoot:
1. Unplug TV from wall.
2. Remove speaker grill, two on bottom, the screws are covered with plastic caps, right and left side on bottom next to floor.
3. Remove inner panel.
4. The blue tube is the one the right side, remove socket, with phillips driver, make sure it's not touching anything.
5. Plug and turn TV back on, if picture appears with no blue it's the tube.
6. If still shuts down, bad blue CRT driver IC.
CAUTION: Call a factory authorized service dealer to give you an estimate, if this sounds too hard.
Good Luck, Day, Big Irish.

The TV is going into protective shutdown. What is the model number of your set? I may be able to help you depending on the chassis number.

It could be the flyback losing resistace in its windings. What is the chassis number I should have the service manual for it. Phillips/magnavox is hard to cross reference without the actual chassis number.

TV makes chirping noise, won't turn on!

That usually means a problem in the start up or deflection circuits. Diode, Horizontal ouput or driver transformer. What Chassis is this set, and I will be ableto give you some better information. Rca , GE and phillips need to be diagnosedwith the chassis number. Let me know the chassis.

No raster, no sound in my big phillips TV

That unit is a PTV916 chassis. The oscilating sound you hear is probably a feedback pulse on the secondary transformer. That would first make me suspect that the HOT (Q802 / 2SD1556)(horizontal output transistor) has shorted. You need to check for any short between the base and emitter pins of that component. If that's the problem properly replacing it should restore normal operation. If that wasn't it, you would next check for failer of the SSB located on the left side of the unit next to the tuner, mounted vertical. That board has been a problem in many of the PTV9xx series chassis. It can be rebuilt, but will take some extensive knowledge and equipment to test. If any of this sounds too complicated I strongly suggest a qualified shop do the testing and repairs. If you have any difficulty locating a reputable shop try contacting NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealer's Assn.) for a listing of shops in your area. It is worth repairing. Good Luck Bill
