Question about Apple iMac G5 Desktop

Desktop resets I downloaded a security update for Microsoft word and after restarting, the desktop now resets itself every minute, kicking me out of what I'm doing. How do I locate this update and delete it, or, if that's not the problem, fix it?

A lot of people are experiencing similar behavior due to bug in Stuffit, if you have it installed, go into System Preferences -> Stuffit -> Disable AVR. I only mention this because it has been the prevalent cause this week.
If that isn't your issue, Then...
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

Mac OS X: How to start up in single-user or verbose mode

If that doesn't help, try booting into Safe Mode and see what happens, if it comes up hopefully another restart may solve, if not, you can at least use this as a starting point to try and resolve. Safe Mode will allow you to get around, surf, etc...

What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?

Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode

If Safe Mode comes up alright, I would install AppleJack, excellent troubleshooting article can be found here... Troubleshooting Tools: AppleJack

Another excellent free tool for performing maintenance is Onyx (be sure to download the right version for your system). Install the package, then run it, it will check your drive and the structure, after this, click on the automation tab and check on everything for Maintenance, Clear Cache, Cleaning, and check on Reset -> LaunchServices database and Mail's Envelope Index. When it completes, restart. Repeat any time something seems flaky, if not try to run at least once a month.

Forgot startup password for vizio desktop

Hi Karra, Start your mac. Insert the install disc that came with the mac and press Restart. As soon as the window goes black push and hold the c-key untill the Apple sign appears. Loading could take a couple of minutes so be patient.
After a while a screen to choose your language. After that the Installer appears to install the Operating System. Avoid this. On top you see several pop-up menu's. Click the far right one and you'll see Change password You can reset a new password here. Hope this works. Good luck.

Imac will not wake from sleep

Though not too common, this does occur every once in a while on many Apple desktops/laptops. Usually an anomaly in the running processes gets stuck and prevents the system from awaking while sleeping.
To kill the processes, press and hold the power button for 7-10 seconds (or until the system powers off). Wait about 10 seconds and then power on the Mac.
I recommend performing a system update after logging onto the Mac and downloading any system & application updates available (and restart, if necessary, to complete).

Imac G5 keeps freezing on turn on

Get out your Mac OS disc and restart your computer and get that disc into the drive. You may need to restart with the disc in, but that's ok.
Just restart again with the "C" Key pressed and the computer will launch with the OS disc, and then you can access the file menu when it finishes launching.
Choose "Disk Utitlity" from the file menu and you can repair the system files on your hard disk.
then restart without the disc in the drive.

Wont start up completly

there is the single user start-up, which you were thinking of. There is also a safe-boot for macs.

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:

1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

During startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.

During startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.

To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

G5 Mac Desktop freezes at random

First you need to run some maintenance (which in itself may solve it) to rule out software issues, so start here...

Imac G5 desktop rebuilds randomly

When a mac does this it is related to what is called the Finder which handles the graphical interactions with the operating system. First thing you should do is run maintenance. An excellent free tool for doing this is Onyx which can be downloaded here... http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html (be sure to download the right version for your system).
Install the package, then run it, it will check your drive and the structure, after this, click on the automation tab and check on everything for Maintenance, Clear Cache, Cleaning, and check on Reset -> LaunchServices database and Mail's Envelope Index. When it completes, restart and this should clear up your problem.
