SNOW BLOWER FRICTION WHEEL WON'T DISENGAGE

I have a Craftsman model 536.887251 snow thrower. After having a problem with the drive I found a tension spring had fallen off. I replaced it but the Friction Wheel is still engaged with the Swing Plate. Only after exerting downward pressure on the Swing Plate with a screw driver can I spin the wheel freely. Everything looks like it is in place and there are no broken parts. Is there any way to adjust the swing plate in order to get the proper clearance for the Friction Drive Wheel? It aligned with the tabs and the cable is adjusted.

Use a good quality silicon lube and spray into the top of the cable. Do this until it comes out the bottom, a little at a time. Also, spray all pivot points. Don't use WD-40, it will freeze. Lube everything at the end of winter and again before winter.

I am looking for belt size for HABAN 24577 snowthrower to Murray 18hp lawn tractor. Book doesn't provide size info.

I have a Haban Model No. 24577A 42" front mounted snow thrower attachment, which I have mounted to a Murray lawn tractor. I needed to replace the lower drive belt, labeled: V-Belt-Long Part No. 23948 in my Haban manual. I had found it next to impossible to find a replacement belt part number or cross-reference to other brands. I tried many belt sizes and lengths to no avail - belts broke quickly and suddenly after 1 or two uses.

While researching Haban on the internet, I realized that they also supplied snow thrower attachments for Sears Craftsman lawn tractors. A thought hit me at one point in my research... that Haban probably sold the same snow thrower chassis to all manufacturers, but only with different interfaces to the tractors. So I ordered up a belt for a different Haban model that was supplied to Sears, and I think that my intuition was correct!! I have found a belt that works with my Haban Model No. 24577A snow thrower.

The belt that appears to be a direct replacement for the Haban belt part number 23948 (long) is as follows: Kevlar Blue V-Belt 5/8" x 87". It is sold by several suppliers under various part numbers, priced at $20 to $30.

I hope this helps you.

My auger stops rotating with heavy snow loads. It sounds as tho a clutch is slipping. I tried to tighten up on the spring in the control cable, but that did not help. What do I adjust next?

The most common cause of this is the drive belt is worn. If you remove the cover in the middle of the snow thrower and look at the belt farthest from the motor. This is the auger/blower drive belt.
With the engine not running, have someone depress the auger lever and check the belt. You should only be able to depress the long side 1/2 inch or less. More than that the belt has stretched and needs to be replaced. On some older blowers you can adjust the tension pulley, but most made in the last 15 years, you can't.
I didn't see what make and model this blower was but:
If this is a craftsman you can get parts through searspartsdirect.com. With other makes you can get parts through jackssmallengines.com
Feel free to ask any other questions. I know Craftsman Snow Blowers. Please remember to rate this answer!
