Question about Linksys Wireless-N WRT150N Router

Dowmload and upload speed problems with my router

I have the Lynksys Wireless -N WRT150N and I am having trouble with the download and upload speeds on my router. I just did a DSL Reports speed test in my area (NYC) .Roadrunnner is my DSL provider and I got a speed of 29kb/s of upload and a 35 kb/s download speed . My router is out of warranty and Lynksys will only help if you pay them ...Their support is so shoddy that I refused. Can anyone help me by detailing the steps to do to optomize the router? I think I need to adjust the bandwith or something....Please , if anyone could help it would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

    that sounds really terrible!

Please go to speakeasy, do another speed test on a server close to you (probably NY) and post the results here again.

    http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Ideally you do the test twice:
    1. through your router
    2. your PC directly connected to your DSL modem (without the router)

    Post both results!

I will check back and then we go from there.

Usually uploading speed will be slow in any type of connection. It is default.Uploading speed will be 1/4 fourth of downloading speed. So uploading speed won't increase more than that.If you fee your internet uploading speed is very slow,it is because of internet traffic.Try using internet in non traffic time. Also try to avoid many downloads at same. You can use latest browser for browsing. To check internet speed visit the site Scanmyspeed.com

My download speed is much lower than my upload speed

There are many, many factors beyond your control, Where you are downloading from, time, servers, traffic, etc., etc., etc. I would not get to hung up on "check my internet speed" software.

Slow upload speed

It is usual that the internet speed differs when connected to a modem and a router. You have many possibilities to get signal affected while connected through a router.
Anyway you can try with these basic steps to get a better connection through router,
1.) Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
2.)Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near metal objects.
3.)Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect.
4.)Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves. etc.,
5.)Adjust the Wifi antenna if it has one.
6.)Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby.
Following these steps would give you stable internet connection and also increased speed in connection. You can check your internet speed from www.ScanMySpeed.com before and after performing these steps.

I have had problems with streaming video during

Doing my best to give you a correct solution and understanding
Issue : delays in streaming video
Environment :
ISP : Bellsouth
Router : wireless WRT150N
Solution :
"Downside to streaming"
Traffic jams.
Internet isn't a direct pipeline from the source to you. Streamed content passes through many other computers on its way to your computer via your ISP. If any one of them is carrying too much other traffic, the streamed content may be interrupted and pause. Streamed content is "buffered" to help avoid this, but sometimes it's unavoidable.
(test the downstream and upstream speed and alose test the download )
(Checked deleting the temporary files and folders)
(Checked firewall and Anti virus)
A slow computer :
if you have too many applications open, it could slow down your media streaming. If you notice things are sluggish, close all unnecessary applications and windows running on your computer. Just keep your Web browser and your media player open.
Noisy phone lines.
phone line that isn't free of noise (humming, crackling), that's not good for streaming (or Web browsing). Disconnect any phones that cause a buzz or hum.

Setting up sucruity

You need to go to the router's page. lynksys is //192.168.1.1 there you can set up you wireless encryption protocol (WEP) and name your broadcast SSID. The great thing about lynksys is you can have your wep key automatically assigned to you. Just make sure you use 128 bit encryption.
