I have a 1990 Dodge Spirit. Recently, I had the alternator belt break and the car ran until it died. I've replaced the belt and can jump start the car, but even after driving around for 30 min, the battery is dead next time I go to start it (even within a couple of hours). Is this just a matter of needing a new battery, or is the alternator gone? Thanks.
I would have them both checked.
The battery for a weak or dead cell, not holding a charge.
The alternator for not charging.
Sounds as if the alternator is shot.
You can take the battery and alternator in to any parts store NAPA, AutoZone, Murrays, etc. to have it load tested for free.
