Convergence problem? Blue shifted to the left, red/green are okay
I can't understand how a DLP can have a convergence problem, but the blue portion of the image is shifted to the left by about 3 inches, and the blue image is a little shakey. However, the red and green images are perfectly aligned. I've heard about this resistor or that IC that needs replaced, but its a little over my head. I'm a smart guy, so if I can get some clues, I think I might be able to fix it myself. At least it will be fun to take it apart!
Re: Convergence problem? Blue shifted to the left,...
If your model number is the PT53WX53 its a rear projection CRT television not a DLP. The PT53WS53 uses two STK392-110 convergence ICs. If you verify the model number of your set I can assist you.

Your tv has a problem with the convergence, adjust it using the original remote go to the setting's menu then go to the convergence section. Adjust the convergence color red and blue the green color is your guide you cannot move this green color, then you should move the red and the blue in all direction left to right, up and down. If you cannot move the red and the blue far enough the convergence IC is defective it must be replace in order to align this convergence. Feel free to send feed back good day and best regards.
You will need to replace your two convergence I.C.s.They are two large
IC mounted on a large aluminum heat sink.Replace both, look for any
burned resistors near them, replace those if needed, and readjust your
convergence. Good Luck
Install the convergence repair kit for your model. You can get the kit from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the two IC associated resistors and the CD with instructions.
Your convergence is out. If it's just out a little, you can adjust with your remote or with older sets there are knobs. If it's way out then your convergence block went out and you'll need to replace it yourself if you're technically adept or take it into the shop for repair.
Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- red IC in particular This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html
I know this set very well---you are saying convergence adjusts ok everywhere? If you understand that the blue is usually de-focused a little----there are only two ways to adjust the focus of each tube-----
1.) Behind the front speaker grill there is an inspection plate---with it removed you will see a small black plastic block with 6 controls on it; it is the MASTER SCREEN/ FOCUS BLOCK
2.) THREE of the controls left to right are Screen controls(red, green and blue) and the other 3 are FOCUS--IT IS ALL black and you need to look close to identify which is focus and which is screen---you are looking for the BLUE focus control(one of the 6)
3.) With the convergence grid on screen cover the RED and GREEN lens in the set and try to adjust the focus of the blue(I presume you know how to put the set into the Convergence mode?
4.) The only other way to adjust the Blue focus is from the back of the set---with the Red and Green lens covered up place a blanket over the top of the set that covers the whole screen--from the back of the set you will note that all three of the black focal lens have a wing nut---with the convergence grid up and only blue lines present(Green and Red lens covered with a cloth) look from behind the set at the grid---loosen the wing nut on the blue lens and slowly slide the lens left or right until the blue has the best focus possible----if it will not adjust with the focal lens or the front focus control you have a circuit problem.

YOu have convergence issues. Ok first question. IN your setup menu do you have the convergence option/ if you DO not then it can be a specail fusable link. fl231 if you do. next question do the picture bow in at the middle. if you do then it possibly a convergence power supply issue. next if you go into setup convergence does the crosshairs adjust up or down left to right on both blue and red. I if so then theres is a chance that it can be a convergence adjusment or a amplifer problem AS always THIS SET CAN GENERATE LEATHAL 380 VOLTS EVEN WITH SET UPLUGED SO BE CAREFULL.
