Power Not Working

I just got the vizio 42 inch tv i plugged it in and for a minute and a half it worked then it went off. There is no power at all not even the name display in the front , no standby either. I called Vizio and they told me that it may be a power supply problem but they were not very helpfull. I wanted to know what i could do to try and solve this problem .If that means opening the back of the LCD so be it but i am not sure what to look for i can not find any specs for this tv that show me what to do . I have tried different plugs and cords but nothing works.I hope to hear from you soon thanks

Re: Power Not Working

Unfortunately unless ya handy with a soldering iron ya self it's probably gonna haveta go to the Shop 4 repair :( Often the PSU is at fault, and usually it has something to do with the Electrolytic Capacitors in the PSU. One can try "Shotgunning" ie replacing ALL Caps on spec in the PSU, OR simply purchace a new PSU and fitting it.. a bit of a gamble. Or get a "quote" for the repair and see whats what.

My vizio 42 inch just made a very loud pop and the screen went black (off), the vizio leters at the below the screen stayed lit white as if the tv was still on. 5 minutes later a very loud pop then came...

Is it possible that it was storming when this happened? It could have been a power surge. If you are still covered under the manufacturers warranty, you should give them a call. Even if you aren't covered it wouldn't hurt to call to see if they can help or offer a discount to have it checked out and/or fixed.

VIZIO TV Black screen. Cannot turn off TV without unplugging.

I had a similar problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. I didnt hear an arcing sound though. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound. I would check the ceramic fuse first on the board that gets power from the plug.

HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from (you can also use This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

Vizio 42 Plasma Pop

My 42 Inch Vizio experienced the pop of death out-of warranty. I bought mine at Sears and they sent a technician over within a day or so. It turned out to be in the power supply and they shipped a board right out. Total including parts and labor was $280. Although no expensive TV should die after less than 2-years, Sears seems to be able to deal with repair in the home without drama.

Vizio 42 inch tv Power Not working

It's very easy to swap the entire power supply board. If it's out of warranty, what do you have to loose? You can purchase a new power supply board from Vance Baldwin. They are the ONLY parts supplier for Vizio. Once you receive the new board, it's just plug and play. Crack the case (a series of small screws around the back perimeter) and remove the old power board and replace it with the new one. It's that easy!

So unplug tv power cord from the tv. Hold the power button and imput button together ( located on side panel ) for approx 45 sec......plug cord back into tv. Press power button on tv and voila !!!!! Tv came back on!!! I have had my Vizio almost 5 yrs. But have to call the unhelpful customer service atleast once a year.... I hope this works for you :)
