Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I am trying to problem solve for dishwasher that is properly installed and is not working or even responding to being hooked up electrically. My husband tried to wire it and unfortunately wired it incorrectly the first time around (there were sparks and it blew the breaker.) We are thinking maybe it blew a fuse? Do they have fuses that can be replaced? I sure hope so! Help!!! -Alicia

No matter what brand it is the unit must have been hooked up power to ground to make a spark when turned on.
they dont have a fuse to protect them, but what may have happend is you could have shorted out a door switch.
be sure that you hae the wiring correct now and that your house fuse or breaker is on.
the wiring is very easy to hook up as black to black, white to white, and bare wire to ground.
i dont see how your husband could have done that wrong, but anything is possible.
recheck the power to the unit and just hope thats all thats wrong.
if you are sure power is good, then something in the unit has shorted out.

Connectingit hooking it up

The exact list of parts for a dishwasher hook-up would depend on the existing plumbing and electrical . There are three hook-ups needed; a hot water feed, typically from under the sink. A Tee is installed on the hot water line with a valve, and the hot water line to the dishwasher is connected to the valve. A drain line from the dishwasher is installed under the sink. It connects to the sink drain. The Electrical connection can be made using the appropriate electrical cord.
There are specific guidelines and considerations on how to connect the drain line under the sink, and what is required for the electrical hook-up. If you do a search on "how to install a dishwasher" you will be able to find extensive information.

Brand new dishwasher wont run

Because it doesn't have legs??? Seriously, I need a little more information. Make/model, new unit or replacement? I presume you installed it because an installer can't leave until it works. Is this dishwasher replacing an old one or a new install? Is the electrical tied in correctly? Is the water hooked up and running? Info, info, info!

Our whirlpool dishwash is not cleaning the dishes very well so I pulled it out from the wall and un hooked the electrical and the water lines. After looking at it I hooked everything back together and I...

I've installed many DW's and haven't seen a reset on one. Take in mind, not saying that they're couldn't be one, but I doubt it IMHO. I've been installing all appliances proffessionally for 10 years and it just doesn't seem like there could be one.

Have you check your washing machine plug behind the machine to see if it's a GFCI plug? I've seen it happen where a consumer had done something electrical in the home and it tripped. They bought a new machine and we showed them that it was the outlet, they didn't even know that they had one behind the machine. I know this doesn't help much but good luck in the problem solving.

No electricity

I would check to ensure you have power to the dishwasher and that the door is closing/secure properly.

(i.e, Plugged-in properly under sink/back or washer, check for tripped circuit-breaker, and door latch is grabbing properly)

How to install dishwasher your self

Is there an old dishwasher where you are installing the new one? It must be connected to a water line, a drain T and an electrical connection. If you have never installed a dishwasher before, it would be a better idea to have someone install it for you (preferrably a licensed installer) or you could have leaks or other problems down the line.
