Broken adjuster for propane heater

We have a propane heater purchased from Home Depot and it sits on top of a small (grill) type tank. The propane adjuster that controls output has broken (plastic black). How can we get this part replaced?

Hey Anon..
WOA...compressed propane is not something to mess around with..I would go back to the Home Depot and talk to the store manager,,(take your receipt and all other paper work for proof), ask him who to see about your issue.. tell him you are afraid to use your NEW grill.(Start at the top!).. you spent good $$$$ and you deserve an answer..or a new grill..

I have an older Genesis grill with a leaking regulator

You can get a replacement regulator at just about any home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) There haven't been changes in the size of the ports or thread patterns on regulators or propane tanks in the last 15 years.

MY propane grill will not come up to the 500 plus degrees for grilling.

There are four possible ways this problem could occur.
1. The unit is old and the burner tubes are plugged, either with rust or spider eggs [yes, they like it their in the winter]. Parts are available at Home Depot and Lowes.
2. The unit is designed for either Natural Gas, and you are using Propane. Conversion can be done.
3. Your gas flow is not forceful enough from the Propane tank. Could be an old tank or a bad regulator. Replace bad parts.
4. Your unit isn't getting enough oxygen because there is too much ash and grease under the grill blocking the airflow. Clean the grill.

If you have not had it for the full warranty period, by all means. (I would call their Customer Service number first.) Here is the site for phone numbers:

When I go to start the barbeque I have to unhook the tank everytime to get the gas to flow from the tank to the grill.

You need a new regulator. These can be purchased and Lowe's, Home Depot, or your local propane supplier. (the ones at your local propane supplier will be of better quality and adjustable.)
