OLD PC GAME INSTALL & PLAY

Just purchased a 1995 Release of "The DIG" by LucasArts(No Support), can't get it to Load & Play??
I have tried the Command Prompts provided with the "Readme", Nothing. I Installed DOSBox .65 & .72 Versions (one at a time of course), and tried to Mount to a Drive...Still Nothing??
I keep getting an ERROR: "Unable to Initialize to Full Screen"
I have Run the "Program Compatibility Wizard", checked of the Boxes for: Windows 95, 256 Colors, 640x Resolution, and Turn Off Advanced Services...still Nothing???
I have Checked the Folder for the Game when it is in My CDROM and it shows 631MB so there has to be something there...I even Copied that off the CD to a "dig" Folder in C: and tried to run it through DOSBox and still Nothing...
WHAT CAN I DO???

See, all programs and games grow old, and computer operating systems change as well.

What i would advice you to do, is to ask the repair man to install Windows XP on a Virtual Computer inside your computer. And install the game there.

Hello Reagan,

In DOSbox you are able to map / mount a local drive from the gues DOSBox software to the windows host machine so that DOSbox can see it. I do this all the time - I have a drive on my windows machine C:\oldgames - and I issue the command

How do I down load to an external drive and not the main computer

First Solution:-

1. If you have copied a particular game's folder to the external drive, go to Start menu > Programs.
2. Right click on the file name of the game.
3. Click on "Properties"
4. Go to "shortcut" page and change the "Target" path directing the EXE file to the folder in the external drive where you have copy-pasted the your game.
5. Click on "Apply" and "OK".
6. Now, try to start the game, and you should be able to play.

An alternate solution is given below.

In both the cases (internet game / purchased games):-
1. First plug in the external hard drive to your computer.
2. You will have to run the installation file of the game (both purchased and internet download) and select the folder path directing it to the external hard drive.
3. For some games, you may have to uninstall the existing game first to re-install and select the desire folder path (external drive).
4. Games will be installed in external drive and also available in start menu > programs > "your game".

Happy gaming! :)

How do I down load to an external drive and not the main computer

1. First, you need to select the external drive while saving any game.
2. Try to play it from External drive first, if game does not play from external drive then try to play it from the Internal drive.
3. It does not make any difference whether you are playing game from external or interna drive because both the drives will use the computer resources and softwares to play the games.

Good Luck.
