Replacing the interior lamp inside the microwave on...

posted by bobbyvan on Jul 29, 2007

Hello, I am looking to see how you replace the interior lamp on a GE Progile Advantium 120, model: SCA-1000-Hbb.
Can I replace the lamp without taking the complete Microwave/convestion off the wall. I thought there was a way to replace the interior lamp without taking the complete microwave down off the wall.
Thanks.

Did not know if you received my last comment but you were right on. After I sent the email I did as you stated (before I saw your reply) and removed the two prong bulb. Make on the bulb is Aglaia, 30 volt, 20 watt.
Thanks for your comments as they were right to the problem. Thanks again for a job well donw!

Yes, Bobby, it can be done. Before you begin, though, go to Home Depot and look in the tool department. There, ask for a "Husky Pro #66604". It's a 1/4" and 5/16" drive 90 degree ratchet that's about 4 inches long. While you're there, pick up a #2 1/4" drive phillips screwdriver bit. You'll use both of these to do the light. Both for about $12.

UNPLUG YOUR MICROWAVE!

Stand on a small ladder in front of the Microwave (MW), remove the 2 screws that hold the vent louver in place and remove the louver. You'll now see a black plastic grill (just above the door handle)remove the 2 screws with your new tools and remove the grill and the metal box that covers the relay. Now remove the 2 screws holding the horizontal metal panel that the box was sitting on. Now gently lift that panel up, (don't try to remove it) and you'll see the lamp. It's the one with 2 white wires going to it and a shiny metal cover over it. Place your index finger on the back of the cover of the lamp and gently pull toward you and lift at the same time. This will release the catch and allow you to pull it all the way out to get to the lamp. There ya go! Simple!
