Where can I get an extra that is more shielded? I might be able to get another atari however on shopgoodwill.com it's got some pretty cheap items.

thank you. I'm going over to my friend's house today and try out his cable. I tried Kaboom on his console and it worked fine, he just had a snowy picture because he use the switchbox and I use a coax adaptor. If atari is fine with his cable I'll replace the cable, but if I still get the problem I'll buy another atari.

It sounds like you may be having problems with the cable that connects to the tv, have you tried a new/different cable?

My nintendo 64 will turn on but won't show up on the tv screen. The red light on the nintendo is on and sometimes as the nintendo is switched on a flicker of static appears for a second, but then nothing...

Have you tried to take out the game and blow into the cartridge and into the console? Sounds rudimentary but that sometimes works on those old consoles.

My 2600 works fine but after 5 mins or so there is a static noise which starts through the tv speakers and the longer I play the louder it gets until I can't hear the game any more. Why?

Try a different channel on your TV. If your using 3 then go to 4 or vice versa.

If that doesn't work then try a different RF Tuner cause those are known to go bad over time. You can also try those Coaxial adapters that allow you to play your Atari on your Cable-Ready TV using the cable connection on the back of the TV.

Finally if either of those don't solve the issue, try playing different games and see if the problem happens after playing 1 games or all games. If its all games then that means there is a problem with the mainboard inside of your Atari.

Atari 2600 junior problems

Press up on the power switch to reset the machine. Then try powering down. If that fails, accumulated dirt or general usage may be preventing the on/off slider from sliding fully to the off position. If you want to hurt your baby, take it apart - you will find the obstruction in the casing (could be as simple as a ball of lint). I wouldn't reccomend it however - the Atari 2600 was always touchy, and this is not as big of a deal as it might seem. Just unplug after every use.
