Upgrading Printer Firmware

HP Jetdirect firmware images have an extension of *.dld while the printer
firmware images have an .rfu extension.Once imported into the repository, the files physically exist under the following location on the HP Web Jetadmin server:
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\ApplicationData\Hewlett-Packard\HP Web Jetadmin\WjaService\config\FirmwareUpgrade

change print port to "Virtual printer port for usb"
use usb line
down load the right firmware .rfu file
in CMD mode,type:
copy /b firmwarefilename.rfu \\pc name\printer name

If it's a unwanted download , it's a malware . You will get rid of it by downloading and launching Malwarebytes from : http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10896905.html
If it's something you volontarily downloaded and installed in your printers software , you need to go to the
Control Panel \ Programs , delete the software and disconnect your unit .
Reboot . Reinstall sofware and reconnect the printer .

Download and reinstall the firmware. That is what the printer is asking for.
First download the firmware here: Firmware. The link is the standard firmware download for 42xx up to 4350, USA version. It covers the 4240n.
For installation follow thoroughly the instructions on this page.
